Believe it or not, I have actually dipped my paralyzed toes into the knitting waters as well. I have made a couple stockinette stitch scarves so far. I'd truthfully be content if I plateau there as long as I can keep doing it, but I have purchased books for sock and traditional folk Swedish knit projects as well.

You don't strike me as someone who's content to plateau!! I've attempted knitting and got as far as the back of a cardigan panel for my daughter who was 2 at the time... she's now 7 so that shows you how it went!

You're right, I'm not contented to plateau often, but I have learned to face reality regarding limitations.

That must be tough, I'm really enjoying hearing about your journey though and how you're making the hobbies that you enjoy work for you. Thank you for sharing

I am currently knitting Harry the Pup by Sardines for tea, i got the kit from blackpool yarn festival back in February. He looks so like my stepson & his fiance's dog so I am making it for them for a little wedding present

I started knitting at Easter and I've made a pair of dk socks and some fingerless gloves. I'm not one fora simple scarf to learn as I'd get too easily bored and give up. I'm now doing a test knit of a tank top which is going really well so far (just need to finish it on time).

Wow! Socks as a first project that's very ambitious.

I found a really good YouTube tutorial to hold my hand.

Wow that's amazing! I tried kitting wrist warmers once with a kit I got at Hobby Craft - I found it so hard, probably not the best instructions! Do you use regular or circular needles?

For the wrist warmers I used regular needles, but now I only use circular even if I'm knitting flat as I prefer how they feel to hold. My mum taught me to knit and purl as a kid and I think it came back quickly when I picked it up again a few months ago.

Well done for starting with socks.  I always recommend that people learn by making something they want - not a boring scarf.

I learnt to knit in the late 1960s when I was five or six, and I've been knitting ever since. At first I made things for my dolls, but now I knit most days and make a variety of items.

That's lovely, my daughter has learnt a bit of crochet, I hope she keeps it up!

I have been an avid knitter for a few years now, having learnt as a child and then came back to it many decades later. i normally have several projects on the go, always a pair of socks. However now i am cranking up the sewing, it leaves less time for knitting (oh, and spinning, and the weaving i want to have a go at!)

Haha, just a few creative persuits?! That's lovely that you've been able to pick knitting back up again, it's such a handy one to be able to pick up and put down.

What sort of things are you enjoying sewing?

I want to sew ALL The things! I really want to make garments for me - i am a fairly non standard size, so it would be lovely to make stuff that i can feel confident wearing. I have made the Saundra skirt by Syndney Graham recently, which i really love - the designer has a video tutorial on you tube so it was really helpful to follow that aswell as the written pattern.

Other than that, i have made a few bags also whcih has been really fun, using scraps and remnants of upholstery and curtain fabric that i have sourced cheap or free.

Yes - sewing ALL the things!! Totally get that! The Saundra skirt is a lovely pattern, did you make it with or without the godets? If you're comfortable sharing photos we'd love to see it in the Makers Gallery

I love knitting a sock. I got into sock knitting a couple of years ago and I love it. I knit them in Autumn and Winter and have made a fair few in lots of fabulous coloured yarns.

I learnt to knit as a teenager and I love that you can come back to knitting as and when the fancy takes you. X

I love knitting socks too. I'm knitting a shawl at the moment though so the socks have been abandoned!

Ooh I love that idea, do you use the same pattern or different ones?

Always a different one each time or I get bored!

I use a very basic 'vanilla' sick pattern. I think it was a free pattern off Ravelry and I just know using different yarns. I just cast on and off I go. Lots of colourful socks
