Mine is a simple water erasable pen (instead of chalk). I've found that if I place my finger underneath where I need to mark a dot as I mark it, the erasable ink will go all the way through - saving me half the time! Plus it's improved my pattern...

I'm not sure. You wouldn't want it next the skin I think you have to experiment to find what suits you. I used some technical wicking fabric that I had left over. I think that any soft cotton would work.
