AO Pattern Printing

I'm new to downloading AO patterns and I was very excited to get the Itch to Stitch Vikos Dress sewing pattern.

I think I need 26 pages at A4, and 7 pages at AO.

I just rang my local print shop and was quoted £15, including VAT, for each sheet of AO.

That would be £45 for the pattern pieces, which surely cannot be right?

Could someone tell me where I'm going wrong, please 🥺

Thanks, Pauline

Hi Pauline, that does sound expensive!  I use Patternsy to get my A0 patterns printed, they charge £2.00 for each A0 sheet and will also print only the sizes you require if your PDF pattern has layers and you request it in the notes.  If you open the A0 PDF you may find that there are also different sheets for different cup sizes so if you can specify which cup sizes you require that may reduce the number of A0 sheets that need printing as well.  Here's a link Patternsy

Hi Pauline, I've just been to take a look at the pattern as I thought 7 A0 sheets was quite a lot. But there are 5 different cup sizes and a very wide size range. It might be worth seeing if you only need 2 or 3 A0 sheets for your size.

But yes I agree with Helen, there are a few places online where you can upload your pattern and pay around £2 per sheet. As well as Patternsy there's The Fold Line and CLC Prints. I don't know if it's the same for all of them but for CLC you upload your pattern and then you need to add the correct number of sheets to calculate the cost.

Hi Hayley.

I think not filtering out the pattern was where I was going wrong.

Around £2 a sheet is a much better number!

Many thanks, Pauline

I use Flamingo Prints - they've been fabulous and I go back to them every time.

they charge £1.50 /A0 sheet paper. But I prefer the tracing paper option £2.00/A0 sheet.   I also get the instructions printed - £1.50 irrelevant of number of pages.

good value, quality and turnaround / can't fault them at all ❤️

Wow that's expensive.

I use planprinting24. They charge 75p a sheet with a flat 5.00 delivery.

Great if you are ordering a lot.

Hi Daisy! I'm also very new to printing patterns having only bought the full pattern in the past! I was unsure how to go about this and had resorted to sellotaping numerous sheets of A4 together at home. However, all my questions were answered and fears put aside when I was able to speak with the lovely people at CLC Prints when I visited The Stitch Festival at the Business Design Centre (my first time and it was amazing!!). I placed my order and also emailed them attaching the pattern just in case I had ordered incorrectly (which is what they had suggested as a back-up). The order was correct and my new patterns arrived a few days later. I had chosen the £2 per sheet of A0 option as opposed to the slightly cheaper tissue paper option, like the traditional old style pattern. I will definitely be using CLC patterns again!

Hello Jaicee

I think we are both in a similar stage in our journey and similarly confused! So your reply was very helpful, thank you

It's good to know there are such helpful companies, it's very reassuring 😊
