Sewing decorations for Christmas etc

Has/do anyone sew Christmas/general household decorations (other than bunting)?

do you 'wing it' and make it without a pattern? Do you have any 'go to' patterns that you use?
does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me? I'd like to do a little something for my tree/house but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the different options!

Hi Mel, I've made Christmas stockings in the past, mostly for gifts and one for my dog which comes out every year. They take little time and fabric and I think they're so effective. I reckon I probably followed a YouTube tutorial and this one was still saved, so it's probably the one: youtube.com/watch?v=OjOgSfTy7oo

Another great, simple idea is cushions covers! I learnt this from my grandma and mum, they cover most of the cushions in the living room with Christmas ones (made by my grandma 😍) this time of year and it instantly make things festive. It's just two square of fabric and a zip (or two rectangles and you make an envelope cushion cover) but it's all about the fabric. There are some really fun prints out there. I hope this helps! I second the cushion covers, I made some simple envelope ones a few years ago that come out every year.

Here is an idea that Tamlyn shared in the magazine last year... gathered.how/sewing-and-quilting/sewing/diy-folded-fabric-star-ornament

I've also seen people use fabric scraps and pin them into polystyrene baubles as well

I hadn't thought of cushion covers! We've got a fair amount of cushions and I think that would be fabulous!

I like the idea of doing stockings too!
