Dress

Hi I'm halfway through a simple pattern to make a shift dress which so far has been great. However,I've narrow shoulders and the dress 'bags' out at the back of the neck. Any advice how to sort this-first time I've attempted a dress!

Hi Diane, where is the shoulder seam (where bodice meets the sleeve) sitting on you? Does it feel like that seam is in the right place or is it hanging down too far? It should (unless it's drafted with a drop sleeve) sit at the "hinge" of your shoulder joint

Hi Hayley, the shoulder seam is where it should be but the neck is rather wide but not too bad. It's just that the back doesn't fit very flat at the nape of my neck. I followed the pattern to a t. There's no zip and it's sleeveless. Doesn't look too bad for a first go!

Hi Diane, we are all shaped so differently so often have to make adjustments to a pattern to get it right for our body. I'm sure there's nothing wrong here with your sewing ability at all, but just the need for a neckline adjustment on the pattern to reduce some of the width there.

Here is an article with some suggestions - but to fix the issue on the dress you've made perhaps two little darts either side of the centre point would work?
