Calling USA/Canadian Members - Virtual Socials

Hello to our lovely members who have joined from the USA and Canada, I hope you are enjoying using the forum!

We are loving our virtual sewing socials and have been lucky enough to have some of you join us in our Wednesday evening social, but I am aware the time difference makes it quite hard for you to join.

Now whilst I am dedicated to serving the sewing community, no one needs to see me on camera in the early hours of the morning!

So if I were to find a lovely person stateside who would be happy to run some sewing socials for me (I might already be "in talks" with someone) at a time that is better suited I'd really love to know if that is something you would be interested in?

It's likely to be once a month to start with, but it would be really helpful to gauge what the response would be before we look into this more.

Andy will be working on making the whole thing more local to you for timings - so when you register for an event it will tell you the correct time for your time zone rather than being UK time based.

Hi Hayley, I would love to attend at USA time; however, I would not be able to attend all the time as I have two small little ones at home. As they grow I'm sure I will have more free time.

Hi Hayley, I would be interested in a sewing social geared for USA time. Thank you for working on this and I'll be checking to see if this becomes available.

Hi Hayley,

You mentioned that we may not want to see you in the morning... but we would be seeing you later in the day, while it is earlier in the day for us. The US/Canada are behind the UK. i.e. 11:00 am for you is 6:00 am (where I am in NY), 4:00 pm for you is 11:00am on the East Coast all the way to 5:00 am on the West Coast. That's why it is hard for us to attend the 10:00am (UK time) sessions.

Hope that hasn't completely confused you.

Hi Rita, yes I think I'm with you - but if we wanted to run a session the was around 7pm for US/Canada that would be the middle of the night for me - that's what I meant about no one wants to see me early in the mornings (like 1am for me)

Thank you Hayley.  I'm in the US and was able to join today for awhile since I'm retired.  Even though I  had no idea where in the UK all the ladies were from, it was so nice chatting with you live.  So cool!!!  Next time hopefully I'll be more prepared.  BTW I did get my bread made.  Hopefully I can get some of my quilt group to join.  One channel I watch is Pattern Poole and am finishing up my block of the month quilt.  Thanks so much and hope to see you soon.

What a fantastic level of consideration, Hayley! Thank you for thinking of us here across the pond.

So sorry that I have been MIA from the live events for the past several weeks.   I spilt my time between Utah where I've been over the winter and and Rhode Island in the summer (2400 miles and two time zones closer to the UK😀).  I am settled in and looking forward to getting back into a normal sewing routine again.   Thanks for exploring options for those of us in North America - but always happy to join in with the wonderful UK- based sewing enthusiasts, too.  Hope all is well with you!

I think these socials are a great idea. I'd love to join you.

Unfortunately I live between UK, Dubai and Thailand. So, when you've sorted out the US, perhaps you'll be able to connect with those of us in the other direction.

Particularly while I'm in Thailand, I don't have any sewing friends there, and I spend the largest chunk of my time there.

Thanks!

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts - it's definitely a long term goal to use this platform to set up socials all over the world!

Wow, three very different places to split your time between! Is that due to work?
