Introductions

Well hello everyone, I'm so excited for this!! So... I'm Hayley and I run Thready Set Go and SewHayleyJane from my lovely studio on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, south of the UK along with my husband Andy and with a little help from 6 year old Mia!

Hi Hayley. Happy Sunday. I have a question about potentially allowing us to sell/swap fabrics and haberdashery items with members in this group. Is this something you've thought of or considered? I'm sure we all have items in our stash that no longer bring us joy, but might to someone else in your exclusive group. Just a thought. Hope to hear your reply.
x
Rita

Hi Rita, yes this is a feature we are working on! Hoping to roll it out soon

Fabulous! Has there been thought given to those of us not in the UK?

We will definitely be looking into it

Hello Hayley and all fellow sewers!
My name is Terry and I live in a small village near Rye in East Sussex.
I've been sewing for 8 years now and am now learning to sew my own swimsuits - having some problems with the armholes stretching!! Oh, that swim elastic!!! 😩
I'm really looking forward to being a part of this online community as I don't have a single sewing friend to chew over sewing bee with. 😄

Hi Terry, really lovely to have you here! Ooh swimsuits is something I've yet to tackle, its definitely on my list though. What pattern are you using?
Yes, I can't wait to chat about the Sewing Bee!!

Hi Haley.
The Megan Nielsen Cottesloe. I've done one, and it is wearable, but I need to make adjustments to the bust area - I think I put the powernet in the wrong way up. 😱. Love the fact that sewing is such a learning curve. 😊
Hi Hayley and all sewers, I have been sewing for 69 years and am still constantly learning. I love looking at others' makes. I take on any new hints and tips, and I watch a lot of YouTube for inspiration. I live in a bungalow now, so I don’t have a stash of fabric anymore. Now, I just purchase fabric when I want to make something.

Hi Christine, so lovely to meet you - welcome to the fold!! Have you got a project on the go?
I will make a simple dress in lightweight grey and black jersey, all washed and ready to go. Not sure whether to make the top half a flattering cross-over or just a straight V neck with set-in three-quarter sleeves. It will take me a while, as I can’t stand doing the cutting out.

Ah I get that, the cutting out is definitely the worst bit!! Sounds like a lovely project
Hi Hayley and all,
I am Sandra and live in a small village at the top of the Cambridgeshire/Lincolnshire border. I am so looking forward to having nice fitting clothes.

Hi Sandra, welcome to the forums! Also hi everyone, I'm Andy, I've been helping Hayley get things down from high places since 2013 and I also do some web development stuff for her too!

Hi all, I'm Monique and live in London. So excited to be a part of Thready Set Go!

Hi Sandra and Monique, first ones to post! So happy to have you here!

Hello everyone, welcome! I'm Gemma, I've been creating makes from the boxes for 5ish years now and love how different each one is! As well as sewing I also knit, and started my own slow fashion brand Love Ginger 💕

Hi All, so excited for this. I'm Mairéad from Ireland and living in the UK.

Welcome all of you lovely sewing people! Greetings from a very cold Manchester!
Along with Gemma and Esther, I have been a regular contributor to Sew Hayley Jane for the last 5 or so years, hopegully giving you all inspiration of what you can make with your box. I love seeing how everyone interprets the box differently into the most amazing things.
I can't wait to get chatting with you all 🤩

Hello everyone!
I'm Helen and live in the Peak District. I am currently using th classic fabric from the November box to make a Christmas top....it's going very slowly! Excited to be part of this sewing community :-)

I'm Pat, (London)a relatively new subscriber and enjoying my boxes so far. Looking forward to Thready Set go!

Welcome in Mairéad and Helen, so happy to have you here!
And of course Gemma and Laura two of our lovely moderators who you'll recognise from the magazine!

Hi there! I’m Esther, and I live in rainy Manchester—well, technically Wigan, but close enough, right? 😂
I started sewing in 2018 and haven’t looked back since. There’s nothing quite like turning a flat piece of fabric into a perfectly fitting garment—it’s definitely my passion! Lately, more like the past 4 years, but who's counting, I’ve been hoping to pick up knitting, so who knows, maybe that’ll be my next adventure.
During lockdown, I had the chance to do a guest post for the SHJ box, and now I’m part of the furniture here. Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our sewing journeys!
Hi Everyone
Well this is exciting! I'm Trudy from Tamworth, Staffordshire, looking forward to talking all things sewing! X

Hello fellow sewing enthusiasts my name is Val, I live in Amesbury, Wiltshire, within walking distance of Stonehenge. I love all aspects of sewing knitting and crocheting.

Hello everyone.
I'm Helen and I live in Nottingham, I enjoy sewing in my spare time and also knitting and crochet. I'm looking forward to being part of this sewing community.

Hello I'm also Helen and I grew up in the Peak District, I do not know the other Helen though lol. I now live on the Sheffield Chesterfield border.
I've been sewing for 20 years and a SHJ subscriber for 6, I collect and restore vintage Singer cast iron machines and 1990s electronic PFAFF. Current count is 16 machines, average price £30, woman hours of restoration countless. The doggos part of my name is a Springer Spanial, a Sprocker-poo and a Chalkie (chihuahua x yorkie) None of them have any chill.
Hi Helen. That is amazing. My first embroidery machine was a Pfaff. Almost 25 years ago. I'm here in the States. Currently I have an antique shop and you can definitely tell what my passion is. We Currently have 3 treadles, 3 electric and many sewing related items, like buttons and ribbon.
Hi all
I'm Charlie and I live in south Wales. I'm excited to involved and looking forward to sharing my makes and being inspired by others makes.

Hi everyone!
So excited that this is up and running, thank you for providing the space Hayley (and Team!).
I'm Catherine, I live in Bolton and am really happy to be part of this forum. Currently mid house move so many things are boxed up but I'll have a more dedicated sewing space in the new house, which I cannot wait for!!
Hello eveyone. I am Diana from Colorado, USA. I am so excited to be here. I am ready to take sewing to the next level.

Ciao! I'm Jo from the Uk but living in Italy for last 17 years. Just waiting for the delivery of my first bos and have been sewing on and off for the last 40 odd (and then some) years and still learning. 😉
Hi, I'm Sue and I live in France. I'm so glad that you have started this initiative Hayley because I've lost my sew-jo. I used to sew a lot thirty odd years ago and started again 6 years ago but over the past few months I've lost my motivation. I thought that your new sewing school would help me get going again. Look forward to chatting with lots of new people x

Hi everyone
I'm Jiya I'm a slow sewer! Im really looking forward to ThreadySetGo. 🤗

Hi! I'm Han, based in Kent, UK. So excited for this forum and to get to know others in the sewing community. I'm also on instagram - @han_made_101 - if you want to follow my mistakes and laugh at/with me!

Hi all, I live in Arborfield, Berkshire but a Southampton girl at heart. Love seeing everyone creativity and makes. What a wonderful bunch of folk us Sewists are.

Hi I'm Lesley, and live in Whitley Bay. I've been sewing for many years, and a SHJ subscriber for just over 1 year now. Looking forward to chatting with and learning from fellow sewists 😄

Hi im Sarah from Wrexham. I'm a confident beginner but still got a lot to learn from all you lovely sewing community. This is platform is fantatic.

Hi I'm Nick (short for Nicola). I live near Portsmouth. I knit, cross stitch, embroider and sew.
I really need to retire to have enough time for everything but at 52 I have a while to go!
Hi Everyone. I'm Rachel and I live in New Zealand, just about as far away from the Sew Hayley Jane headquarters as you could get! Every month I have to avoid social media for 10 days while I wait for my box to arrive as I hate spoilers 😆

Wow!!! So many of you are here already and posting! Thank you so much, it's really lovely to have you all here

Ah! Hello! I'm Jasmin a Yorkshire lass living in County Durham now. I started sewing in 2014 but between 2014 - 2024 I made maybe 10 items 😅
This year due loosing my Grandad in Jan my sewing took a step up to be honest as a form of therapy and I made a plan to sew a mostly me made holiday wardrobe for my big family holiday in October - which I did! About 75% of the clothes I took were me made! 🥳
I subscribed to the SHJ box in maybe June this year and love it although haven't made up anything yet mainly because I can't make decisions!😅
Anyway I sew for therapy and so I don't have to decide what to watch on TV!
Looking forward to this community and supporting Hayley ❤️

Hi Jasmin, so happy you're here! I'm sorry to hear about your Grandad but sounds like sewing has helped you through and what an amazing achievement to have sewing your holiday wardrobe!

Hi everyone,
This is super exciting! I've loved reading through so many introductions and starting to get to know you.
I'm Tamlyn (Sewn on the Tyne on both instagram & YouTube). I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne with my husband Sam, 4 year old son (aka sleep thief) Taylor and cat Chester. I've been sewing for around 6 years now and have been subscribed to SHJ for most of that time! I was delighted when Hayley invited me to start contributing to the magazine a few years ago now. I started out writing fat quarter tutorials, but now write a couple of different (hopefully inspirational!) articles each month.
I love being part of the SHJ community and Thready Set Go is such an exciting development!
Hopefully chat to you all very soon (Oh, and an extra big hello to Lesley and Jasmin - you're both local to me!)
T x

Hi, I'm Debbie and I live in Exmouth, Devon. I've been sewing for many years, but there's always something new to learn.

Hello one and all!!
I'm Kelly in real life. On instagram I am a_right_sewnsew and on YouTube I am one half of Sistas of Stitchcraft.
I have been sewing for 2 years in January! I was so inspired by Dee's (the other Sista) sewing journey on instagram that when she invited me into her sewing room I jumped at and haven't looked back.
My first Sew Hayley Jane box arrived in August 2023 and that was the start of my garment making journey! I love the anticipation and excitement of Christmas every month!
I would describe myself as a confident beginner!
How exciting is Hayley and Andy's new adventure?!
Oh and I live in Southampton with my husband (who is amazingly supportive), his 2 grown up children and Lulubelle the cat. I have a daughter and a 13 month old granddaughter too! Life is increasingly busy so sewing time/energy is sporadic and precious.
Happy sewing 🫶🧵

Hi everyone I am Linda from Bury St Edmunds I eventually worked out the verification email was into my junk! looking forward to connecting with you all
Hi makers! I'm Jane and I'm a Yorkshire lass! I'm excitedly waiting delivery of my first subscription box🤩. I've been sewing for 4/5 years and love turning a piece of fabric into a garment I can wear and feel proud of! I really, really enjoy making coats and jackets 😀
Hi Everyone, I'm Dee, sewing vlogger (one half of Sistas of Stitchcraft) and Sew Hayley Jane superfan haha! I'm based in southern uk in a place called Lee on the Solent, about 40 mins from SHJ HQ! This is such an exciting new venture and I'm looking forward to seeing what is to come! I'm also on instagram so if we don't already follow each other, feel free to do so! Happy sewing! 🧵🪡

Aw Dee, you're making me blush!!
Hi everyone, I'm Sarah. Originally from Birmingham but have lived in Shaftesbury Dorset for 12 years now with my husband and 14 year old son. My daughter has recently moved to Liverpool university. I'm an introvert at heart, but I'm looking forward to seeing & hopefully contributing to this sewing community. I think this is a great addition to the monthly boxes, which I absolutely love ❤️

Hi Sarah, thank you so much for being here, and fellow introvert here too!

Hi everyone,
I'm Wilma from The Netherlands, @vladivos on Instagram. I'm 45 years old and have been sewing for 11 years now. I teach History and Civics to kids aged 12 to 18. I have a wardrobe full of me-made clothes and really should be sewing more for other people, but I like sewing for myself the best. :D But my next projects really, honest to God, will be for my husband and daughter...probably.

Hi I'm Sandra & live in Greater Manchester. I've sewn since I was little & collected fabric since my teens. (An entirely different hobby from sewing it). I subscribed to SHJ boxes as a gift to myself in memory of my mum.
I go to a quilting group where they call me Speedy Sandra & describe my sewing as prolific. That's where my Instagram name derives from although I haven't posted many of my makes. Guess I'm a little bit scared of expanding a public profile.
Other than sewing I love cold water swimming. I worked in accounts roles for years & since redundancy I've been working one day a week in a quilt shop. Needless to say the temptation to increase my fabric stash is impossible to resist 🤭
I'm Michelle and I live in Suffolk. I've been sewing since 2020 when I took up sewing as a new hobby during lockdown.
I've been subscribed to SHj boxes for 18 months and love trying new fabric and designs.
Looking forward to learning new skills and connecting with other sewers.

Hi Hayley and everyone, this is such a great idea !! I'm looking forward to sharing with you all and seeing your makes. I live just outside Shaftesbury, Dorset and love all things sewing related and cross stitch x

Hi everyone. I'm Gemma and live in Derbyshire. I have been sewing since 2020 after my husband surprised me with a sewing machine for Christmas. I love the me time it gives me and the ability to make the clothes I want to wear in fabric I love. I've been receiving the lovely box of SHJ goodies for just over a year and a half and get so excited when I receive my dispatched email and start wondering what will be in my box this month.
I am not brave enough to share things on Instagram (although I have an account for stalking many people on here and admiring your makes) so thank you for creating this community Hayley. I look forward to chatting with everyone and sharing all things sewing.

Hi Hayley & gang
I'm Nikki and I live in Lichfield, Staffordshire with my husband, daughter and 2 Springer Spaniels.
I've been quilting for a few years and made the move to dressmaking this summer. love the box I received today thank you. ♥️😀
Hello everyone, I've really enjoyed reading your introductions.
I'm Tracy (and not an alcoholic!) .... I live in Wickford, Essex but also travel regularly to South Wales, maybe twice a month to visit my daughter who went to uni there and hasn't come back (yet!). I have 4 grown up children and 5 (almost 6) grandchildren ages from due in March 25 to 11 years old, I also have a dog, cat and husband (he would say in that order! Just kidding). Unfortunately I still find myself working full-time despite the dream of bringing up the family and then solely having to have dinner and hubby's slippers ready when he came home!
Now in my sixth decade, I started sewing from an early age, I grew up in my grandparents house, with no TV until I was 15. When I was 7 or 8 I desperately wanted a "Tiny Tears" and received one on my 11th birthday by which time I wanted a Sindy so was badly disappointed, so instead of playing with her, I made her clothes - copying the dress she came with and that was my first experience. My grandma had an old singer hand machine and made my clothes, we were poor. My grandma then bought a quite basic electric sewing machine but didn't take to it and gave it to me for my 21st birthday present. By this time I'd moved to my own home and I made curtains and cushions and things. Later I made my wedding dress and bridgesmaids dresses and then later still a party dress for my older daughter. About 25 years ago I bought what was at the time a quite expensive Bernina 1260 I think, which I love, is still working fine and I know how to use it! My last child was born 16 weeks prematurely (the one who now lives in Wales) so she weighed 900g and I made lots of very small baby dresses (very good for stress relief when facing adversity!). Then last year I made that premature daughter's wedding dress and two pretty dresses for my two grandaughters and a mini version for one grandaughter's bunny.
Right now I've knitted two baby jumpers for the new baby in production and am making a baby shirt and a daddy shirt to match which will be a Xmas present for the daddy, who is my second son and will be a new daddy in March.
Now that sounds like I'm always sewing but it's a potted history illusion of 50 years so in reality I have very little time and I definitely need to sew more. I subscribed to the SHJ boxes as a way of inspiring and feeling connected. Unfortunately real shops seem few and far between and just don't have that quality or personal touch.
Hayley thank you so much for creating this forum, it will be lovely to be part of a community, to share ideas and listen to everyone's story.

Hello from Sutton, Greater London. I have been sewing on and off since school, I make clothes and bags and love seeing everyone's makes and learning about new patterns etc. Oh yes, I am also an avid buyer of fabric and patterns - I need to make more and not just look!!!
Hello everyone! I'm Dana and live in Washington, USA. I love watching SHJ and all the British vloggers on YouTube and recently started getting the subscription box. I guess I'm a confidant beginner and want to get better at fitting. I still have a lot of questions but don't have any sewers in my life. I'm hoping this forum will help me with that!

Hi everyone 👋🏼
I'm Beccie and I live in Horsham in West Sussex. It's so exciting to be a part of Hayley's new adventure. I have been a classic box subscriber since Oct 23 and only restarted sewing about 18 months ago but it's given me so much enjoyment & I'm loving learning and creating. I am really looking forward to getting involved in ThreadySetGo and "meeting" other lovely sewists here.
Happy Stitching

Hello Everyone!
This is sew awesome, having a great time catching up and reading everyones comments.
My name is Jade and I live in Kent, South East of UK. I have only been sewing since 2021 and garment making really since the begininng of this year. I also like to make quilts and cross stitching when time allows. I signed up to the subscription boxes early this year and am hooked!
I work full time and am also currently studying part time as a medical herbalist. So I try and fit in sewing where I can, which can be a challenge!

Loving reading everyone's introductions, so nice to have you all here!!
If you haven't introduced yourself yet pop a hello below!
Hi everyone
My name is Sara, I live in Antwerp, Belgium. I tried to find some time for sewing in between work and raising a one-year-old, as it is my way of slowing down.
I was thought the basics by my mum as a kid, and have been hooked ever since. (We were strongly encouraged to make our own clothes).I make clothes and bags (once you go there, there is no way back), and have recently started a course on pattern drafting.
I started subscribing to the boxes to get out of my comfort zone, both with the fabrics and the patterns.

Hi everyone, I'm Karen from Liverpool. I love sewing and my goal is to become more confident in what I make. I also enjoy crafting and walking my 2 Tibetan Terriers Bella and Amber

Hello everyone! I'm Teri with Inspired By The Dress from the beautiful state of Virginia, USA. I love everything sewing and two years ago won grant money from a town to open a bricks and mortar shop for the purpose of bringing new business to an old but lovely town in my beloved state. I design, make, restyle and offer alterations to wedding dresses!
I have been a subscriber to SewHaleyJane for just over a year and I absolutely LOVE the fabrics, patterns, notions and sweet treats that arrive in the SHJ boxes!!! I am so very thankful that I found Sew Haley Jane. I am currently on a sabbatical from sewing wedding dresses/attire until early next year. In the meantime, as for some long overdue self-care I plan to sew some stunning outfits for myself with my SHJ treasures before heading back into bridal season 2025! I look forward to reading and sharing with everyone! Thank you Sew Haley Jane for following your heart and dreams and giving us Sew Haley Jane and now ThreadySetGo! You are an inspiration!!

Hi Teri, thank you so much for your lovely message. How amazing hat you opened your own shop in the town! Enjoy your time off, looking forward to seeing what you make!

Hi everyone, my name is Lucy and I live in Nottingham. I've been sewing for a year and got my first sewing machine last Xmas. This hobby has taken over! I love sewing and have learnt so much this year already.
I started the SHJ subscription boxes as I was finding it overwhelming to choose fabric online as there isn't many fabric shops around where I live. It really helps seeing what others have made with the same fabric for inspiration.

Hi Lucy, welcome to the group!! So pleased the boxes have given you some inspiration

Hi everyone! I'm Deb from South Wales, looking forward to the chat and events on Thready Set Go.
Hi Hayley & Everyone. I am Elaine and I live in Lancashire.I started to sew in lockdown and I am a total beginner as regards sewing. I do knit and crochet though too. As I have mental health issues, re anxiety, lack of confidence etc this has been a big step for me to take and I am hoping it will give me another focus to keep my mind occupied and learn something new. I am very slow with my sewing but hopefully will pick up and learn lots from all you clever people. I am a box subscriber ,but only recently. I have to say I have not been dissapointed and I cant wait for my box to arrive when its due. I do need to find some beginner friendly patterns in order for me to start using my lovely fabrics.

Hi Everyone I'm Maria from Melbourne Australia of Italian heritage and have stitched and sewn since I was a child, (found out it's in my ancestry with tailors in the family). Have done alot of cross stitch, tapestry and dressmaking over the years and love it! Used to buy the UK Prima and Me magazines back in the late 80s and 90s and I love all crafty things UK! Predominately use Prima Patterns (yes the old 90s patterns fashion are back lol) and the big 4 but my next favourite is Sewgirl aka Fiona Hesford (her patterns were in the sewing mags) First year subscriber to SHJ box and it's fantastic bit pricey for me in Australia but totally worth it as it challenges me plus I like to see what others make.! MY fav vloggers are Bec, Ruan, Tamlyn, Rachel, Adele.

Hi Maria, so lovely to have you hear all the way from Australia! I still love Prima magazine!

Hello, Kirsten here from Stoke on Trent, started seeing again in 2020 but nothing major and this year I've really got in to it! Love watching all the sewing vlogs, and collecting loads of lovely fabrics and patterns. I do make the occasional garment, but my sewing is much slower than my fabric buying!

Hi Kirsten, welcome! Hope you find some inspiration here!!

Hi everyone.
I'm Alice, and I live in Hampshire, not far from Hayley's studio. I've been sewing since the end of 2021 and am absolutely hooked! Can't wait to read about all your projects.

Hi Alice! That's so great that you started sewing in '21! So happy to have you here, fellow hampshire girl

Hi everyone! I'm Debbie and I live in Hampshire with my husband and 2 young girls (5 and 8). I'm quite new to sewing and I'm about to borrow my Mums old machine, so I'm excited to get learning. I've been using a mini machine and it struggles with projects. I love crochet and also eager to learn cross stitch and embroidery. I just like anything crafty! I've recently been made redundant so I'm taking a little time out to explore my hobbies more.

Hi Debbie, welcome!! So happy to have you here and so exciting that you've just started sewing!

Hi all. I'm Tina I'm English but lucky enough to live in beautiful Pembrokeshire, West Wales.
I dabbled a bit with sewing for years, but was always frustrated with poor fit. I then lost weight and was pleased to be able to buy ready to wear clothes until I discovered how poorly they fitted!
So about 18 months ago I decided to try to learn to sew 'properly'. I quickly became obsessed, and am now on a mission to have a completely me-made wardrobe.
The turning point for me was making a Fabric Godmother Peony dress. I decided wrongly or rightly that if I could manage that, complete with invisible zip, I could make anything I set my mind to.
I document my makes on instagram with the same username that I have here.
I absolutely love SHJ boxes; it's a proper treat every month.

Hi Tina, that's amazing that you've started sewing 18 months ago - and absolutely you can make anything you set your mind to!

Hello everyone!
I am Susanne and I am living in the Netherlands with my husband and two daughters (3 and 6 yr) who's hands are faster than the speed of light to grab the sweet treat as soon as I open the monthly box.
Looking forward being inspired from all the makes of you fellow sewists. And also hopefully get to know some Dutch-Sew-Hayley-Jane-Subcribers for possible future fabric swaps :)
Congrats and thanks Hayley for the hard work creating this space!

Hi Susanne, thank you so much for joining us and the lovely words! Really happy to have you here!
Morning my name is Lee at the moment writing to you all from our Static caravan in Norfolk on a miserable morning, looking forward to going home and getting my Machine out of hideing this is because we had the whole family over at Christmas, absolutley loved them all coming but my other baby is put away. Looking forward to being part of this new community. happy new year everyone

Oh no hope the weather brightens up! Happy New Year to you too!

Hi all,
I'm Laura and have been teaching myself to sew since January 2023.
I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne with my hubby and two children Phoebe 15 (going on 21) and Eddie 11 (going on 50) 😂 I'm hoping this group will push me out of my comfort zone and give me the confidence to believe that "I can do" xx

Hi Laura,
Haha, I feel like Eddie and I would get on well as a couple of old souls!
Yes Laura, you can totally do it! Have you got a project on the go at the moment?

Hi Hayley,
He is most definitely an old soul 😂
I've nearly finished my wearable Pogonip toile. Xx

Hi, I rediscovered sewing during Covid after a very long break. Im only 4ft 10 so have always struggled to find clothes the right length in the body and/or sleeves. I try to sew sustainably, buying deadstock fabrics and habadashery from a sustainable source. I make clothes, bags, and homeware. Dor Mills

Hi, so great to have you here and amazing that you rediscovered a passion for sewing!

Hi everyone,
Thank you Hayley for setting this up - such a great idea!
My name is Vicki and I live just outside of Bristol.
i used to sew with my nan as a child but then rediscovered my love for it in 2016 and haven't looked back!
I mostly prefer dressmaking, and my favourite fabric is a floaty, bright, floral viscose!
Really looking forward to getting to know everyone - hope you're all getting some time to sew over Christmas!

Yes the bright and floaty viscose, one of my favourites too! Great to have you here Vicki!

Hi everyone hope you all had a grand Christmas and are looking forward to a busy 2025 sew fest! I'm Penny in North Essex and am a relative newcomer to garment sewing - I am also a quilter. I have great plans for next year - first stop clearing the sewing space of all the boxes and rubbish stuffed in there to make the rest of the house look reasonable! But that will wait till twelfth night in the meantime some lovely sewing plans to dive into..... Thanks Hayley for creating this amazing site - am so looking forward to making sewing friends and expanding my sewing skills next year. Bye for now! 👋👋👋

Hi Penelope, how exciting that you're new to garment sewing, I look forward to seeing what you create in 2025!
Hi Everyone, my name is Helen and I live near Cambridge. I had not sewn for years but restarted about six months ago and really have the sewing bug now. My grandmother was the most amazing sewist I know and I just wish she had been around when I started, then I might not have stopped for such a long time. Looking forward to being part of this community and improving my skills.

Hi Helen, really lovely to have you here! It's so lovely to have a skill or hobby that connects you in someway to previous generations.

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year (almost).
Thanks Hayley for setting this up, it's been so nice to catch up with everyone!
I'm Sonya, originally from Newcastle, UK, but I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada now. I've been sewing for almost a year and have picked up a lot of tips from sewhayleyjane and looking forward to learning more!
I'm looking forward to connecting with more sewists and learning more about fitting.

Hi Sonya, wow that's a big move! Amazing that you've only been sewing a year, hope you find lots of inspiration here

Hello everyone I'm Mandie from West Sussex. I live with my husband and 2 children (ages 7 and 1). I've been sewing on and off for 12 years but really got into it in the last 3, and now no longer buy clothes new- only make them myself or buy second hand (last years resolution that was successful!)
I'm looking forward to chatting and enjoying this lovely community! Thank you Hayley!

Hi Mandie, so lovely to meet you! And great that you've been able to create your own wardrobe over the last 3 years
Hi everyone, I'm Alison based in Dorset. I sew bags and clothes. Good to be around like minded people.

Hi Alison, welcome aboard!!

Hi everyone, I'm Marisa and new to sewing. Looking forward to making some time for myself in 2025 to try some projects and learn lots of new techniques!

Hi Marisa, so happy you're here! Hope you find lot of tips and inspiration

Hi everyone! I am Ann from Pennsylvania, USA. I am a special education teacher, wife, and mom of three (27, 23, and 21 year olds). My mom loved sewing. It was her creative outlet. She started me sewing in my teens. I sewed for a few years then stopped. During COVID I started up again and found my love of sewing again. It is my creative outlet now. I love being able to create clothes that fit me and are unique. I love your magazines included in the boxes, Hayley. I get so much inspiration from them. I am so looking forward to ThreadySet Go. I love seeing what people create and hearing their ideas. I have made a lot of my things after seeing what others make. I look forward to the boxes each month. Decembers came on christmas eve- a great christmas present. I have been a subscriber for less than a year and really love it.

Hi Ann, that's so lovely to hear thank you so much! And how amazing that your box arrived on Christmas Eve, what a present!

Hi everyone, I am Karen and I live in Somerset with my daughter (who came back temporarily and is still here over a year later), my dogs and cats, plus I have a litter of kittens. My daughter has decided that she wants this month's fabric - says it's the perfect colour for her. My final sew in 2024 is for her as well. It's a cropped Style Arc Bert polo shirt in a knit fabric I purchased from Tamlyn's destash.

Hi Karen, so lovely to have you here! I think your daughter might need to join and watch some of our beginner tutorials coming in January!!

Hello, I'm Wendy and I live in north west Essex, not far from Cambridge. I've been sewing most of my life, but started again seriously about 12 years ago. I make my own clothes, but also enjoy machine embroidery and patchwork & quilting.

Hi Wendy, lovely to have you here!
Hello I'm Annette from North Lincolnshire, I've been sewing for a few years to varying degrees of success. Really pleased to have found this forum as I find sewing quite solitary as not many of my friends are crafty. The other thing I've found recently is sewing podcasts on you tube, so if anyone has any recommendations

Hi Annette, yes, that's exactly what I want this space to be about! So pleased you're here! Ooh I haven't checked out podcasts on youtube - who have you been watching?
The Yorkshire sew girl and sew like dotty so far
Hi, I'm Bev from north Wales. I'm glad to see some fellow introverts on here. Not confident enough to post on instagram (although I have tried). Love receiving my SHJ box each month and hoping to reduce my fabric stash in 2025 by actually making some clothes.

Hi Bev, so happy to have you here and hope you find this a safe space. So pleased you are loving your boxes!

Lots of new members the last few days, come and introduce yourself!
Where in the world are you?
What will your first make of the year be?

Hello All
I'm Theresa, and I live in West Yorkshire. I used to see as a child (even had a plastic workable machine). Fast forward 40 years, my grandson was born last year, and I picked up sewing in September again. I have found such a passion for sewing garments. My next goal is to learn how to grade and alter patterns to ensure a good fit.

Oh wow Theresa that's so exciting that you've found a passion for it!
Hi everyone, I'm Trudy from Tamworth (Staffs) looking forward to lotsa sewing chat on these forums! X

Hi Trudy, so happy to have you here!

Hi everyone, I'm Mel. Known as bubbly duck generally on my socials. I'm a crafter in general, scrapbooking, beading (jewellery and embroidery, aka bead weaving)
I started sewing about 18 months ago and made my first wearable garments roughly 9 months ago. On and off I have been a shj subscriber over the past 12 months

Hi Mel, welcome to the fold!! sounds like you have a few crafty strings to your bow!
Hi everyone, I'm Karyn from sunny Bournemouth in dorset. My mum was a fabulous sewer so grew up watching her and sewing along but in the last few years it has spiralled a bit like my stash 😂😂. Sewing has become stress busting for me lately as well. I have 4 children and love knitting and cross stitch too. I absolutely love getting my classic box it's like a birthday every month, and I like the surprise and challenge of how to use the fabric. I also am quite a solitary sewer no-one i know sews, so getting to know like minded people is wonderful.

Hi Karyn, welcome along! so lovely to have the skill passed down to you. So happy you're here, have you booked onto one of our sewing socials to get to meet more lovely sewists?
I've booked onto your 1st sewing social tomorrow, looking forward to it.

Amazing, can't wait to see you there!
Me too 😬 A little bit nervous but looking forward to it too.
Have we had the link yet to join the live event tonight?

About 5-10 mins before the event an email will go out with a link directly to the event, but it will also be accessible via the main events calendar page five minutes before it starts when the button on it will change to a "Join" link for everyone who is booked in 😊

Hello everyone. My name is Lelan, and I live in Wisconsin. As might be guessed by my username and profile pic, I am a quadriplegic doing what I can to continue to find ways to keep sewing accessible to me and improve my skills. My interest in these pursuits is not limited to being for my own benefit, nor is it limited to just sewing. Musical instruments, various visual arts, tinkering (like vintage sewing machine repairs, and learning foreign languages - if it can be done by able-bodied people and it makes sense that disabled people might also want to take a crack at developing genuine skill, then I am all about helping them figure out what is/ is not possible and what is/ is not necessary in order for them to meet their goals. Speaking of meeting, I am glad to have found this venue and I look forward to meeting many cool fellow sewists.

Hi Lelan, so happy to meet you here, and thank you for sharing how you are enjoying making things like sewing and art more accessible. It's so interesting to hear a different perspective and I look forward to finding out more!

Thank you very much for that welcome. By the way, I found this site by putting "online sewing community" into my browser's search engine. Didn't take long to find, either - so, congratulations on the early successes of your recent launch!

That is so great to know thank you so much!!!

Hello! I'm Karen, from Maryland in the US. I didn't know this was a thing until today and I'm so excited to be here! I don't love social media because it's become a work task which makes it way less fun. I've been missing the community feeling, but not enough to go back to using it for non-work fun, and I hope this will fill that hole.
Most of my recent making time has been dedicated to yarn crafts, but I'm super excited to make a new jumper/pinafore this weekend. There's some brown baby corduroy in my craft room that's calling my name. 😀

Hello - nice to meet you.

Hi Karen, yes I think a lot of us are feeling the pull away from social media these days - it's definitely loosing the fun! But that's exactly why we created this space.
Have fun seeing this weekend - I always giggle at the different meaning of Jumper between US and UK - hear it means more like a sweatshirt/pullover

Hello you lovely lot of people! My name is Deborah and I live in northern Ontario, Canada, land of the Great White North where current winter temps are averaging -20C with about 25cm of snow on the ground. Aside from living in a dreadfully cold place, I do love it here. I have a lakeside studio which is home to my main love of weaving (have 3 looms, 3 spinning wheels, 3 sewing machines...hmmm...things come in 3's around here lol). I weave fabric to sew with, either clothing or bags/purses. I also knit, spin yarn and dye yarns. I have been an avid sewist for 40+ years and am just starting to get back into making my own clothes. Looking forward to a new social platform to chat up folks! Thanks for creating this new platform! :)

Hi Deborah, so lovely to have you here! I don't think I can even imagine what -20 feels like!! Your studio sounds amazing, I think I'd love to have a nose around with all those treasures

Thank you! and you are welcome to visit anytime and see my playroom :D

Hello! I'm Hanna from Helsinki, Finland. As a sewist I'm quite experimental and impatientient: I know how to make things properly but when I'm making for myselt, I tend to cut corners a bit too often. Currently working on a hand quilted velvet patchwork coat! And dreaming of a birthday dress project but have not decided on the design yet.
I work in the field and happy to share about my work too if people are interested/if its allowed here. For now it will be just my own hobby stuff, just with the disclaimer that I have access to a huge pattern library through my work, so I likely did not pay for the patterns I use.
I hope you have a wonderful and creative day!

Hi Hanna, wow a quilted velvet patchwork coat sounds amazing! I'd love to know what you do, is your profile picture a clue?

Yes it's a little clue! I'm part of the TAUKO Magazine team, my focus is in managing the website and orders and running the Make & Share. If anyone ever needs to know in which issue of TAUKO a specific pattern is published in, I'm pretty sure I know it by memory. The very useful skills one learns in a job like this!

What an exciting job! Very happy to have you here!!

Hello Sewing Friends, My name is Wendy and I am in Leicestershire. I looking forward to being part of this sewing community.

Hi Wendy, welcome in!! Lovely to have you here
Hi everyone,

I've been sewing for about 6 years and been a SHJ member for 4 years this month.
Hi Everyone, I'm Claire and I live in Northern Ireland. I just love this forum, sewing has always been a joyful but lonely experience for me and I have watched those who have sewing friends then can visit and wished I could find that myself. Joining the live events, I now feel part of this wonderful sewing community thank you so much Hayley,

Claire that's so lovely, thank you so much!! I'm so pleased you've been able to find that joy with us

Hello everyone, I'm Christine (or Chris) I'm from North Somerset and after many years absence from sewing I've caught the bug again. Just bought a new machine which I'm still learning to use and looking forward to making some lovely outfits for myself and family

Hi Chris, so happy to hear you've caught the bug again, welcome back!! And thank you so much for being here

Thank you I'm so glad I found this group
Hi, I'm Karen from North Hertfordshire. I only started sewing 3 years ago in my retirement but love the fabulous friends I have made as a result of my newest hobby. Looking forward to making more friends in this wonderful community.

Hi Karen, so happy to hear what a joy sewing has been for you!!

Hi, I am Trudi - a very keen sewer. I make all sorts of things and sew most days however i am rubbish at social media so rarely post. Hoping to change that here. To start with Ithought I would post a picture of my sewing room. I am very lucky to have such a space.

Hi Trudi - wow what a beautiful place to sew! Great to have you here - and don't worry about being rubbish at social media - that's why we've made this space

Hello, I'm Cheryl from Northern California, USA. I would consider myself a confident beginner. I recently started sewing clothing again after many years of quilting. I follow many sewing vlogs. I am very happy to be here with so many talented people!

Hi Cheryl, thank you so much for introducing yourself, it's lovely to "meet you"!

Hello from Janet in West Yorkshire. A lifelong sewer who can turn a hand to anything from dressmaking, soft furnishing and re - upholstery. Now retired, but was lucky enough to have had a second career teaching sewing skills in adult ed. My fabric stash will outlive me as will the patterns i have in my "to do pile". Also adicted to crochet and embroidery.

Hi Janet, so happy to have you here! Sounds like you're a dab hand at all things crafty!

Hi Janet, Nice meeting you!
Hi, I'm Ginette, and I'm from North Carolina. I learned to sew in high school and I got back into it so I could make my own clothes. I also recently learned basic quilting and I'm excited to make some for my parents!

Hi Ginette, lovely to meet you! So lovely to hear your enjoying make quilts!

Hi,
I'm Linda, I have been sewing for many years, quilting , knitting and all things crafty.
I love sewing clothes for me and my grandchildren, but do find it difficult to pick the right fabric and pattern! I have made some costly mistakes. So hoping the fabric subscription box helps !
Looking forward to inspiration and education.

Hi Linda, thank you so much for joining! Sewing for grandkids must be so lovely - I'm sure they'll enjoy seeing what's in the boxes too!

Welcome new members - come and introduce yourself below, let us know how you started sewing and what you're working on at the moment!

Hello, I'm Lenaic (Little Helene) from Brittany, living in South East London.
I always wanted to sew my clothes but only got a sewing machine in 2019. I've been learning to sew mostly on my own, from books and from YouTube videos. So far, I've sown clothes and bags. I would love to share my sewing projects and hints and tips with other sewers. 😊 At the moment, I'm sewing a work dress in a suiting fabric (first try with this fabric). I also have lots of other projects, including a jacket in Cotton Twill.

Hi Lenaic, really lovely to have you here and hope you enjoy sharing your sewing projects and tips here! What pattern are you using for your dress?

Thanks Hayley. I tends to mix and match patterns, especially for dresses. I started to sew with the book 'Sew many dresses sew little time' ☺️ which teaches to mix tops, skirts and sleeves. For this dress I used NewLook K6144 with front darts and short sleeves for the top and added an A line skirt.

I have this book but I've never tried anything from it. How do you work out how much fabric you need? I find this aspect puzzling.

I think the book tells you how much fabric is needed for each part of the dress you decide to make, but I tend to buy 2m or 2.5m of fabric or even sometimes 3m, as I don't often know what I will make with it!
Hi, I'm Laila. I live in Texas. I started sewing early this year as a way to learn how to make cloths for my daughters and maybe do some crafts for the house. So far I have enjoyed learning how to sew (I'm a beginner for sure). I'm currently working on a knit top for my daughter to go along with shorts. I'm looking forward meeting people at the sewing socials. I have to say I like that aspect of sewing.

Hi Laila, it was really lovely to meet you at the last social. Looking forward to seeing you again and being part of your new sewing journey!!

Hi everyone,
I'm Pauline originally from Newcastle upon Tyne but now retired and living in Cyprus. I got into sewing when we moved over here and now make nearly all my clothes. I've recently started experimenting with combining patterns and have just finished a sundress which turned out ok so I'm inspired to try other combinations now. I'm thinking along the lines of a pleated bodice using the Pattern Scout Flora pattern with an A-line or handkerchief skirt.

Hi Pauline, welcome, it's lovely to meet you! Love the sound of combining a pleated bodice with a different skirt, sounds great!

Hello everyone!
I'm new to Thready Set Go but have subscribed to a number of Hayley's boxes in the past. Very sad that May is the last but what a great one to close out such an incredible journey. Thank you Hayley ❤
I am a knitter and crocheter currently living in a village near Towcester, Northamptonshire. I've recently been getting back into sewing which I am loving. I used to make costumes many years ago, nothing fancy and just for my own hobbies at the time. I'm now working towards a more me made wardrobe and Hayley has encouraged me to say hello 😊. Really looking forward to meeting you all, learning lots and making some wonderful things.

Hi Emily, so lovely to have you here!! So pleased you loved the boxes, and so exciting that you're working on a me made wardrobe!

Hello everyone ☺️ I'm Leanne and live in Taranaki, New Zealand. I've never been able to subscribe to the SHJ boxes but I've always enjoyed watching unboxings and I have a friend who subscribed.
I'm her via Hayley's 'the end' video as I didn't know about this forum - as a knitter who used to use ravelry all the time, I always booed one day there might be a community for sewers and I'm excited to see this grow.
I have been making my own clothes and other items for over 40 years, I have worked in the made to measure bridal industry and am a kilt maker. I currently work from home building a small sewing and teaching business after having to leave my previous part time job.
Look forward to connecting with others 😃

Hi Leanne, thank you so much for being here, so pleased we've been able to create something for the sewing community like ravelry!
That's really exciting that you're building your sewing business up, are you selling thing that you make or something different?

Thanks Hayley, I am a kilt maker (trained in Keith near Aberdeen about 25 years ago! We emigrated here from the UK in 2004) and dressmaker so I'm doing a combination of both those plus planning to teach some small classes and maybe some one on one lessons too.

Oh wow that sounds amazing!

My name is Susanne and I live in southern Germany near Stuttgart. I have been sewing for +/- 50 years and am still loving it. My first items were PJs for my brothers. I'm sure they thought they were awful but bravely wore them. I stll find things I don't know about sewing and fit and pattern drafting and hope for a lot of inspiration from everyone here!!

Hi Susanne, so happy you're here! That's so cool that you're still learning, that's the wonderful thing about sewing, it never gets boring! Are you working on anything at the moment?

I am making my third pair of wide legged trousers by Peppermint Magazine. Just in a plain black cotton twill as I realised I didn't have any black trousers. As I make all my clothes I rumaged through my stash and pulled out the black fabric. But my favorite pair is bit animal printy. I'll post it as soon as I have taken a photo.

Ooh sounds great!! A good pair of plain black trousers is definitely something missing from my wardrobe too!

Hello everyone, I'm Adele and I live in Cornwall. I started sewing in Jan 24 and have fallen in love with it. I try to have a project on the go all the time and have been making lots of hoodies and blouses, a lot of stuffed dinosaurs, ventured into the world of bag making and have my first bear cut out and ready to sew. I've managed to make the Spindrift jacket and line it, my next big project will be the Twig & Tale Forrester coat with a twist (I want to line it and make the sleeves detachable). I haven't yet managed trousers but they are on my big project list. Looking forward to being part of Thready Set Go 😊

Hi Adele, wow!! You've thrown yourself into sewing and achieved some amazing things, that all sounds amazing! Can't wait to hear how you get on with the Forrester coat, and maybe June's Pattern Club pick will help you with your next goal of trousers!!

Oh interesting, I'm off on holiday at the beginning of June so may look at pattern club when I get back 😊 thank you x

Hello wonderful sewists!
I'm Jaelan from the southwest, USA. My sewing journey began when I was a girl with my mom, but it really "started" in 2019. It was then that I started making my own clothing and became hooked. So happy to have this platform to connect with you all!

Hi Jaelan, so lovely to have you here! Are you working on anything at the moment?

Hello Hayley and all you lovely sewers 👋
My name is Andrea and I love in a small village in North Dorset. I have been sewing for about 10 years, I am self taught and still have so much to learn.
I work as a medical secretary and find sewing gives me the calm my mind needs. I absolutely love it.
I am not overly confident and follow patterns to the letter. I am also not great at matching the correct fabric to patterns, which had caused a few interesting makes! Hopefully I will learn from this wonderful community. Thank you Hayley for creating this space x

Hi Andrea, welcome I'm so happy you're here!
Choosing the correct fabric for a pattern is definitely a skill that develops over time and experience, I've definitely had a few experiments not work out along those lines!
What sort of things do you like to sew?

Hi Hayley I'm making some pietra wide leg trousers at the moment in what I think is the correct fabric! I like making dresses, tops, skirts and I love bags. Have you ever done a you tube video about types of fabric and patterns to use? If not would you consider it for the future? x

I've got a pair of those on the sewing table too! I have done a few videos on YouTube about fabrics - so far I've done viscose, double gauze, cotton, sweatshirt fabrics and satin. I'm hoping to do more

I've finished them this afternoon - they need an iron and hemming. I got into a bit of a mess with the waistband, especially as the fabric was a bit mobile. I'll try and attach a photo x

They look fab!!!
Hi Haley and hello to everyone, I'm Terri from Texas. I am happy to be a part of this community. Looking forward to meeting so many really neat and inspiring people.

Hi Terri, welcome it's really lovely to meet you! How long have you been sewing for?
Hi
ive Been looking for something like this.Ive recently got into sewing for myself, all I've ever done is really easy pj and little dress for my grandad children. But I've recently started doing clothes for myself and really injoying it. But when I run into problems I've got nobody to ask. So I'm hoping this could be the place, I've also noticed all of the YouTubers talk about socials I cannt seem to find the place to look for them again I'm hoping this is the place.
jacqui

Hi Jacqui, really lovely to meet you and so happy you've found us! Yes this is definitely the place to come for asking for help.
