I've been using narrow washi tape to mark notches recently, and it seems to be working. Once you sew over it using a sewing machine, you just tear it off. More complicated when using an overlocker.

I've been making my first vegan leather/vinyl bag. I found washi tape really helpful to hold handles, zips etc in place when I couldn't pin.
