A few weeks ago I posted this dress made from a duvet cover as a wearable muslin in preparation for this final one in a very lovely wool fabric from Sherwood's Fabrics. This was for a dinner we went to the other night - a reunion event for hubby's university group, which we go to every year (all pensioners now!).
I made a size 4 even though I measure into sizes 8, 10, and 12 (bust, waist, hip) and the size feels fine. It depends how loose fitting you want it to be. It is a very simple pattern to make. The front and back bodices are lined (I used a quilting cotton on this one) and the rest of the dress is very straightforward. The side panel and sleeve are rectangular pieces and the sleeve just has a simple pleat added at the hem. The skirt is slightly A-line and attaches to the bodice 1-to-1 with no gathers or elastic needed. It has ties front and back which can be fastened at the front or sides for a different look. The back neck is round but you can wear this either way round if you want the v at the back.
