Marlo Sweater/Cardigan Question

Hi! I've downloaded the pattern and have my fabric ready - excited to make this! Just looking through the instructions, I can see there are two methods to attach the neckband, but I can't understand what the difference is in terms of the final result? Can anyone explain it? Is it to do with bulk or looking neater?

Thanks!

Hey, the second method completely conceals all the raw edges whereas the first, slightly easier method is similar to attaching the hem band - you're left with the seam allowance exposed (but on the inside of the cardigan).

I would say the method you choose depends on how thick your fabric is and if it holds a press - the blue cable knit I made mine in is on the thicker side and seemed to hate the iron - so although I did the second method for the video tutorials it would have been better to do the first method, as it was very fiddly and ended up being quite bulky at the hem.

I hope that makes sense?

Oh my gosh, I've had to give up. The cable knit I bought is just way too thick and it's a total nightmare to sew. I've already reduced the neckband width by half so just sewing a single layer but even then, my machine just jams and my overlocker stops cutting due to the thickness!

I might try again with something thinner another time but need a break from it for a bit, haha.

Oh no Han!!! I'm so sorry you've run into trouble - the cable knits can be really thick and when sewing through multiple layers it's tricky! Perhaps a contrast neckband in some ribbing could work as an alternative?

I've had similar problems with a cable knit. In the end I overlocked the inner neckband edge in a single layer then stitched in the ditch without folding over the seam allowance to reduce the thickness. Pleased with the outcome, eventually!
