Let's fill this thread with all your gorgeous Samara tops this week! I cannot wait to see your finished (or nearly finished) makes. Did you enjoy sewing it? What fabric did you use?

Here's mine in all its sparkly rainbow technicolour. 🌈
It doesn't look like it from the picture, but the sleeves are the same length.
I used some left over fabric (fairly lightweight cotton), lengthened the pattern by several inches and sized down. It's still too big and I could go down another size, but it's certainly different from anything else I've ever made 😁

Wow!! That's a showstopper, I love it!!

Here's mine. Turned out better than I thought. I attached the short sleeve after much deliberation, lengthened the body a bit and raised the V neck. Nice easy make. Love the fabric, viscose from 1st for fabrics. Will definitely do another one or two.

Yes this looks so good Lesley! The sleeves were a great choice!

So pretty! I love the decorative stitching on the sleeve
Thank you so much Hayley, for introducing this pattern, the video tutorials and opening this thread. This is my first ever wearable garment that I've made. Although it's far from perfect, it's the most forgiving garment and pattern as my first attempt. I've learnt so much with this project: Topstitching, zigzag stitching, stay stitching, understitching, French seams and slip/invisible stitching. I also learnt how to change my pressor foot to an overedge foot and so much more! I'm looking forward to learning more from June's pattern!

Oh my gosh this is sooo exciting! Thank you so much for sharing, your Samara looks gorgeous I'm so pleased you've joinged us and have your first me-made garment!

I started off by making a full length, long sleeved version in a floral cotton lawn. It's ok but a bit too boxy for me, it will be worn but needs a bit of styling help.

As it was such a quick sew I decided to try it with a drapey viscose I've had in my stash for a while (Radiance by Penelope), but before I got started my SHJ order arrived and the gorgeous broderie anglaise was calling to me. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and lean into the boxy style and go for a cropped version, I think it will be great for summer. I'd just started when my ironing board broke 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Because of the fabric I'm doing French seams so don't really want to rush it, new ironing board is arriving Sunday so it will have to wait until then.
I will probably still do another in the viscose because I think the simplicity of the top will really show off the print and I think that once I find my sweet spot with this pattern it will be one I use repeatedly.

Oooh all these fabrics are perfect for Samara! So frustrating that your ironing board broke though!

I wouldn't mind but I only iron when I'm sewing lol

Haha, same!!
Hi Laura
I absolutely love fabric with people on, where is this from?

I bought it from someone on eBay about 12mths ago... I only have 1.5m of it and have been desperately trying to find more but with no luck. I've been dying to use it but wanted something that will show off the print and be simple enough that I won't mess it up 😂

Oh I love this!! Yes the trim was in the same box, they go perfectly!

I love this far more than I thought I would but it's a fantastic pattern. X

Jenny I love this! That fabric is gorgeous

This looks great with the style and color of your pants! Oh, and Hello Pink! I love your wall.

I made mine in a viscose. I made the hip length with the elbow length sleeves. I did plan on adding the elastic but I quite like how it turned out without, nice and light and breezy for the warmer weather 😃. Thank you Hayley for the fab tutorials. Can't wait to learn more in June's pattern club

I love this, that fabric is gorgeous!!

Beautiful Kelly!

Thank you Hayley 🤩

Hi Kelly! This fbric is stunning in the Samara. The pattern is simple but really allows the fabrics to do all the talking, doesn't it? Love the heart sunglasses too!

Hi, thank you so much. Yes that is the beauty of such a simple pattern isn't it?
Your version is beautiful.
I love my heart shades so much. 💖

Ironing board finally arrived so managed to get finished tonight. I love the cropped version but definitely not in a rush to work with broiderie anglaise again anytime soon... or at least not one that's quite so 'open'. I don’t think I helped myself by pattern matching front and back because it meant all the holes lined up lol

Squeezed a cropped version of Samara out of my Liberty lawn. Finally took the plunge and cut this fabric!

Oh Lesley, I love it! Being a cotton tana lawn, how does it fall on the body? I have several smaller pieces of Liberty Lawn and this makes me want to use one. But I don't want the sleeves to have too much body. Thanks!

Thanks Rita. Had to wait till my photographer was available and the rain stopped for a pic!
This one is 2 sizes smaller than the green one I made. Definitely feels more structured than the viscose but so comfortable and cool to wear. Wasn't sure what the cropped version would look/feel like but love it.

This looks sooo good Lesley!

Oh I love the cropped length on you!

I wasn't very gung ho on trying the Samara, but wanted to support this forum and TATB. I decided to size down significantly to bring it in closer to my body and I kept the hip length to make a bathing suit coverup shirt. To keep it airy I used a very soft, but surprisingly easy to sew with, lace. I had less than a yard but it worked perfectly! I trimed the neckline using a stretch lace trim, but didn't stretch it like you would an elastic. For the arm hems I used a fold over elastic. If you've never tried it, you should. It's a brilliant way to finish seams and comes in lots of colors and styles. This one has a slight grosgrain look to it. The bottom hem, I simply serged then turned it up and sewed a narrow hem.
I'm surprised at how much I ended up liking the Samara. It's simple style suits me, I think.

This version is beautiful. X

Love this version Rita, great idea for a coverup.

This look sooo cute! I'm so pleased you love it as I know how uncertain you were!
Stunning!
As a beginner - I loved this pattern (am still slogging away at the Edy and hope to have it finished at some point!) but this pattern has given me some confidence which is great. Have made 2 and love them both and def want to make more!!

Ah Karen sorry I missed your post, this looks great and so pleased it's given you a confidence boost!

When Sylvie met Samara!

These look great together! Is that your second Samara?

Thanks Hayley.
Third one! A great pattern for a quick make. Well chosen for pattern club!
