Merchant and Mills Winnie PJs

Dug out from the deepest depths of my WIP box I have decided to finally sew up the Merchant and Mills Winnie Pyjamas that I cut out in Janauary 2023!!
I have gone through to check all the pattern pieces - I think the only thing missing is the neck binding but I can easily use a scrap of alternative fabric to cut that which will give it a nice little touch.

I have been desperate to make a pair of PJs that are a little bit fancier than the ones I tend to slob about the house in. So now feels like a good time!

This fabric is a viscose twill from Roo-tid and I'm planning to work on these during the socials throughout November - first thing will be interfacing!

I'm so excited - I've been wanting fancy luxe pjs for years but always put them to the back of the list in favour of things that will be worn outside of the house!! No more - my time for fancy pjs is now!

Planning to start with the trousers in this weeks socials!

PJ bottoms are finished and they fit great! I cut a size 22 at the waist and graded to a 24 at the hip.

I would say they are just about long enough, I'm 5'7" I overlocked the hem and then just turned it up by 1cm.

There were a couple of different techniques, usually when I've made trousers or PJ bottoms the legs and crotch seams are sewn up before adding the waistband.

With this one the side legs and crotch seams were sewn, then the waistband was sewn and finished before then sewing the inside leg seams. I followed the instructions because normally when I sew something the way I think it should be done it turns out there was a reason.

There was no reason, just a different order of doing things. But worked out lovely! I like that there is elastic in the back which is attached to ties that go through the front waistband.

Right, onto the top!

Noooo!!!! I was trimming the seam allowance around the neckline - we have the main body, collar and facing in the seam allowance so a lot of fabric to cut! And the body must have got caught as I was cutting!

Luckily it will be under the collar with the facing underneath so I think I'll just put some interfacing under it and perhaps sew a few stitches over the top but still! So annoyed!!

Sandwiched a small piece of fabric behind the hole with a piece of interfacing and zigzagged around the edge. It's not perfect but it'll be hidden by the collar and it's saved.

Lovely morning with this great bunch working on the top - got more done than I usually do on the socials!! Sewed in the sleeves and side seams, almost there!

Oh no. I think we have all done something like that at least once.
