Project: Dad’s Christmas Present - Travel bag with matching box pouches

I get the Studio 7t7 bag makers box and last months box included a brown crocodile faux leather with tartan zipper tape and webbing and some gorgeous brass zips. I was trying to think what I could make when Ruan (The Yorkshire Sew Girl) when unboxing her box mentioned that it would make a nice bag for a man. Aha! Perfect, I haven't had the opportunity to make a bag for my dad yet so I am making the 'Country Cow Designs' Travel Light Duffel Bag countrycowdesigns.com/product/travel-light-20 and matching 'Country Cow Designs' Densa Dopp Kit pouches for toiletries etc countrycowdesigns.com/product/densa-42 pictures of the examples below.

I have some additional faux leather as I didn't quite have enough of the crocodile but there is enough for the main panels and the box pouches so with the addition faux leather, I should end up with quite a nice set. I've sourced the additional zips, hardware, lining and foam from 'Country Cow Designs'.

So far, I have made the strap connectors and then skipped a few steps as I am waiting on the other zips to sew up the main zipper panel with foam and lining and the gusset with the foam ready to connect to the zipper panel.

This looks like it's going to be gorgeous.  Do you make a lot of bags?

Thank you, I have made a few bags. I like making bags just as much as making clothes and they're great for gifts, my Mum is building quite a stash 😂

This is such a great idea!! Men are really hard to sew little gifts for - I can think of hundreds of things the women in my family will like but the men... not so much!

The gusset is now completed with the strap connectors attached ready for the main panels.

I've also seen up the panels for the box pouches using a green faux leather as the contrast to the crocodile (as I cut the brown wrong, but hey I get a couple of pouches out of my mistake).

I can't do anything now until the zip pulls arrive so I can do the pocket on the main bag and the pouches also now need the zips. Looking great so far and so far the bag is a nice and easy project.

Hope those zips and pulls arrive quickly! Where did you get them from?

They should be arriving tomorrow. I've bought them from Country Cow Designs. The zips are not an exact match but close enough.

Main body of the main bag is now very nearly finished 😊. I just need to bind the seams on the inside. It's pretty heavy and getting the main panels attached was a little tricky just because it's so big, it's the biggest bag I've made so far (and will probably remain the biggest).

Really happy with it, just got to work out what to line it with. I can with piece together the bits of lining I've got left or find something else so I'll pop to the fabric shop tomorrow and see what they've got.
