Share one sewing goal you'd like to achieve next year - a certain technique or type of pattern you haven't tried yet. For me... it's a coat! Although it's been my goal for the last two years, maybe 2025 will be the one!

What Sewing Technique Would You Like To Master In 2025?
I would love to make a pair of trousers...I have made a suit, bridesmaids dresses and lots of other garments over the years but have been terrified of making trousers. So making my own trousers is my goal for 2025

Oooh that's a good goal!!

I want to tackle zips next year. I've sewn a few on bags but not garments as I always opt for elasticated dresses and skirts as I know they're more likely to fit.

Buttons for me, the thought of it all going wrong and ruining my garment terrifies me. Will opt for zips or elastic every time. I am going to challenge myself to try them next year though having just bought the TATB Nell dress.

That's so interesting - I'll always opt for buttons over zips! The Nell dress is a good one to start as the buttons are only on the bodice. Practice a few times on a scrap of the fabric you're using before going for the real thing

Funny you should ask as I literally came here to start a make nine thread. Mine is all about upping my skills level.

Love this Kelly, very well thought out plans!

Thank you Hayley 🤩

I've started making more bags recently so I want to learn how to put rivets in. Oh and I'd like to perfect a v-neck top, my v- necks always look messy

I've just sewn up the Sew House 7 Skyline Tee, which has a v-neck option (its a jersey pattern). It had really good instructions for sewing the neckband on - would recommend.

Invisible zips are my nemesis-the two sides never match up😬. And v-necks are a challenge too.

Once you've sewn in the 1st side close the zip and mark on the unsewn side where the waist seam is, undo the zip, pin, tack and sew the 2nd side making sure your mark lines up. I hope that makes sense?
Making clothes using a pattern terrifies me. Even a basic pair of trousers scares me. I make tote bags, cushions, bunting etc but I really want to use this year to start making my own clothes

I hope we can inspire and give you the confidence to have a go - I always recommend a simple pair of pj bottoms like Tilly and the Buttons Jamies - they are a great first pattern and don't take any fitting - you only really need your hip measurement as the elastic will pull in the waist.
Jamie PJ bottoms were my first ever garment I made! I was surprised how easy they came together and definitely recommend it.

I've had a bra making kit sitting in my stash for over a year and a half, so I'd definitely like to have a go at making a bra in 2025!

That's definitley something I'd like to try one day!
I want to work on my fitting skills - especially trousers.

That's a really great goal!

I want to master button holes as I avoid making things than need them!

Buttonholes & zips! And jeans. And to improve my finishing. My seams are always a mess but I can no longer use the beginner excuse for those.

I don't own an overlocker and can't afford one for the forseable future. My sewing mch does have an overlocking stitch but it's not perfect on fabrics that fray a lot so, I'd like to master French seams

Ooh that's a great one, I love french seams!!
