I plan to tackle this now. I have been sewing for about 4/5 and have avoided them. It’s ridiculous. I know I’m capable. This is the week. I plan to start with scraps of fabric until they no longer trigger anxiety. I’m posting this to hold me to account 💪
Button Hole Phobia
Hi Annie!
I completely understand! I was terrified of buttonholes for aaggggeeees!! Like they are often the last thing to do so if it goes wrong 🤷🤷🤦🤦😭😭
Anyway, I actually did my first buttonhole 1 year ago! I was so proud I posted an insta/Facebook story about it! 🤣
I've done a few since too but I feel braver to tackle them now. I was doing shirt button holes last week and I had to unpick 1 buttonhole 4 times! It just wouldn't work! It unpicked fine and I eventually did all of them, after nearly throwing my machine out the window! 🤣
The most common advise is practice or do what I did and just give it ago! Feel the fear and do it anyway! 🥳
I believe in you! 💕
Thank you Jasmin. I love your Insta post 😀
Amazing, you can totally do this, and we are right here behind you!
Definitely practice loads on scraps - what kind of buttonhole function does your machine have?
Thanks Hayley, pretty sure my machine has it all where buttons holes are concerned. It’s the Bernina 475. I love her and should trust her on this.
I think buttonholes are a bit like making pancakes...the first one is always rubbish and they get better as you keep going!! I've learned to always start at the bottom of the placket now when doing multiple buttons and buttonholes. It's the 'first pancake' buttonhole and people rarely see that one...! By the time you get to the ones that are at eye level they'll be perfect!
A perfect analogy!!
Ooh Donnie, what a great idea.
