Where To Buy Swim Fabric?

I have finally relented and let my 8 year old stop swimming lessons after months of her begging (the only thing she can't do is a handstand in the water... there are more important things). But that means I want to take her swimming more often so she can still practice. Now, the thought of wearing a swim suit is not one that fills me with joy to be honest, not least because it means shaving my legs more!!

But after seeing Laura The Specky Seamstress share her stretch Cinnamon Daisy Poppy and plans to turn it into a swimsuit - I think the bodice would look stunning as a swim top. I already have a pair of black bottoms so I'm on the lookout for plain black swimsuit fabric. Does anyone have any recommendations?

No fabric recommendations but I did see a post on YT from Whitney (TomKatStitchery) where she used one of her old bras to 'assist' with the wrangling of the 'chesticles' when she made a swimsuit. I know the Poppy does that very well already, but the added security might be comforting.

Personally, if I were to swim I think I'd make one of the Victorian style neck to knee garments - but that's just me!!

A friend of mine, who is wondrously and gorgeously curvy, has made a swimsuit but she used cycling shorts as the 'bottom' half and topped it with quite a floating/drapy top and she looks stunning in that...

I made a couple of swimsuits last year. I bought the fabric from Fabric Godmother. I used the Cottesloe pattern by Megan Nielsen as it has a choice of styles.

I have recently bought the Clearwater Essentials pattern by Love Notions to try.

They are really comfortable - you can add a bra shelf for extra support, but I didn't.

She lists - SewMeSunshine, Minerva and Sistermintaka for UK.

I used Good Fabric as they had some reduced Liberty print swimsuit fabric. I am still, slowly, working on my cossie pattern. I have to take time out from it, but am gradually getting there!

I do a senior water aerobics class at the Rose Bowl aquatic center 3 times a week. Fun group. Many ladies of all shapes and sizes wear a long sleeve rash guard and either bike shorts or capris over a one piece or a sport bra. Cute, sporty look. Super comfortable through all of the varied exercises our instructors invent. Added benefit is sun protection! I replace rash guards in off season sales.
