I’ve noticed that a lot of production problems start before manufacturing even begins. When a brand approaches clothing manufacturers without finalized measurements, clear construction details, fabric direction, or an approved sample, the development process can become much slower than expected.
This seems especially important for clothing manufacturers for startups, because newer brands are often still refining their first collection while trying to understand sampling, grading, fit, and production quantities at the same time.
For anyone here who has worked with a manufacturer, what do you think a brand should absolutely have prepared before reaching out?
Would you say the most important things are a tech pack, finished pattern, fabric choice, sample garment, size chart, or something else?
I’d also be interested to hear from people who have worked with small batch clothing manufacturers. Did producing in smaller quantities make the development process easier, or did it create different challenges?
