Hoping For A New Machine This Christmas?

Are you asking for a new sewing machine or overlocker this Christmas? Which model would you love to see under the tree?

I’m asking for an overlocker this Christmas! I’ve got my eye on a Pfaff one because I adore my Pfaff sewing machine. Ideally, I’d love a model with air threading, but since I am Santa, I don't think this year’s stocking will  be able to carry that price tag

After several years of royally bashing the Brother Strong and tough, I have been gifted a...Brother Strong and tough for Christmas from a friend who bought a new machine.  It's not as bad as I thought I would be which is very annoying.

What I'd actually like is a high end pfaff, but at £18k and the weight of a small car I'm not holding out hope that Santa can fit it on the sleigh.

I craved a Babylock Airthreader overlocker at £1750. My husband bought me a Brother Air1800 for my birthday and I was not ungrateful however I felt a little disappointed until I used it. It is fabulous and was just under £800.

I have been looking at the brother 3000 air threader.  I have the juki overlock and love it but threading it is a nightmare . I'm thinking of buying one for myself for Mother's Day .

You won't regret it. I love mine. It really is as good as the more expensive ones, I've no regrets. I got mine from Sew essentials and they even showed me how to use it. Lucy is great .

I took the plunge and bought the brother 3000 air serger . I was trying to thread my juki 650 and then it would not start . It turned on but would not run . I cried because I was in the middle of a sewing project and my husband said the other day "just buy it . My juki is going to the shop.
"  I got it on sale at the same place Amazon goes through but for same price gave me three bonus packages, one is a thread set, one is a set of additional feet and another was the extension table . Free shipping is always a bonus too.  It runs here  Now just to impatiently wait .

Nikki - those are the two machines I have had throughtout my sewing journey and they've served me VERY well! I have *just* upgraded my overlocker to the Babylock Acclaim - it's a special treat for my 40th birthday and I feel VERY lucky! It's dreamy!

Ohhh lovely, I watched a programme about Bernina and they are made by one person they have a one man production line and I love that idea. I hope you have a fantastic time sewing on your new machine.

That would be great to believe but surely in this day and age that would be too costly 😊

Ooo I would love a new machine! I keep hoping to win one in ista comps. 😹

I bought myself a Janome HC8100 sewing machine (Stevie) and a Brother 3034DWT overlocker (Otis) last year as a newbie after borrowing Dee's spare brother sewing machine for a couple of months.

My dream machines?

An air threading overlocker sounds amazing! My husband (Ritchie) currently does all the threading of Otis.

oh and I would love it to deal better with thick fabric or many layers.

Features my sewing machine must have:

It must be good for fine fabrics and bagmaking!

It must be able to deal with thick layers with ease.

I like the idea of a walking foot as standard.

Easy to thread.

One of those thread cutters that you press a button or something.

Oh and the stop/start button.

I'm going to be without my Pfaff Creative for the first time since buying it as it's at the shop getting repaired. It kept thinking that the presser foot was up when it was down.
I thought I would manage fine without it, but now I keep thinking of everything I want to make and can't.

Oh no!! How long will it be in the repair shop for? Have you got a backup?

I had a brother overlocker and struggled to use it. I couldnt cope with the tension setting and spent ages rethreading only for my thread to break.  I have just purchased the babylock Gloria coverlock and it is an absolute dream to use.

That's a shame that your Brother overlocker wasn't up to the task, but glad you've got Gloria now!

I'm making more bags lately so I'd love an industrial machine that could cope well with vinyl.
in a dream world ( and a bigger sewing room) I'd love an embroidery machine again but I can't justify it for the little I would use it

My lovely husband bought me a circa 1905 Bradbury's Soeze for Christmas, it's beautiful!

I've got my eye on a Bernina to upgrade from my Pfaff Passport, but trying to work out which one, so any recommendations welcome.

Oh that is beautiful! I've not worked with a Bernina so can't offer any advice personally - I'm sure someone here will be able to help though?

I recently treated myself to a Bernina 570 QE which is absolutely heavenly to sew with. So smooth and it as though they have thought of all the potential problems users might encounter and resolved them before they occur. I particularly like the "jumbo" thread bobbins and the integrated walking foot - ingenious!

I'm thinking of buying the Bernina 570QE but wonder what you get for the extra cost. I have a Bernetta B38 and it has auto cut, easy threader and fairly moveable foot for thick materials. Probably not the best for that job though. It also has a needle I can adjust to either side by small increments.
