Dressform

I'm considering getting a dress form, do you think they are worth the space, thanks?

Hi Annette - personally I've never had one! They definitely have their uses - I think levelling a hem would be sooo much easier with one. And I'm sure there are other uses as well - would love to hear everyones thoughts

Thanks, I'm not 100% sold on one and it would have to work to earn the space in my room

I did invest in an adjustable one but found I didn’t use it very much and when we moved I gave it away as I knew I would no longer have the space for it.

I got an adjustable one several years ago and used it a lot. However, they are made in "standard" sizes and over the years my shape changed. I went on a two-day class to customise it to my own particular shape and now it is much more useful. It is really good for getting hems just right.

Thanks one to look at for the future, meanwhile I've just picked up a vintage one on Facebook for £30 to start me off

Hi Annette. I find mine very useful - for hemming, pinning slippery fabrics and alterations. I would definitely get an adjustable one if possible. My husband has named mine "Peg" as "she only has one leg". ;-)

I very enthusiastically bought one some years ago because I thought I would do some sort of draping technique. Never did and it has been standing in the way ever since. Iwould not buy one again as I fit my clothes on myself (trial and error!!!).

I did get one, but for £30 from Marketplace, so I didn't think it was too much of an outlay if I didn't use her

She's beautiful - as is the shirt she's wearing!

Oh no!! Does she act more like a shop mannequin now to display your makes? Can you sell or give it away on facebook market place?

The clip to keep her up is a bit loose hence the reduced stature, but all adjustable. And the rest of her is on good condition Think she's from the 80's.

the shirt is a Donny that only took me a year to finish

I bought one just because of tops and blouses fell off my shoulders, so I got an adjustable one just for my bust size, I don't tend to wear tight fitting tops because I have a stoma and even though I am not ashamed of it it's easier to wear a baggy top that hides it to some degree.
