Button Holes

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me figure out what's going on with my button holes. I've tried re-threading etc but my machine doesn't seem to be registering the lever correctly, it goes fine to start with then goes wrong at the top and just ends up doing really small button holes. I've included a picture to try and clarify. Thank you all in advance xx

Hi Laura

Oh no, that's super frustrating. Does your machine have a 1-step button hole function? So you attach the buttonhole foot, select buttonhole stitch and go? Also have you sewn buttonholes on this machine before without problems or is this your first time?

Yes this is using the 1-step function and I've sewn buttonholes with this machine plenty of times before, it's just decided to start playing up this week.

Hmm... that's strange. You've pulled down the lever that detects how long the buttonhole needs to be?

It might sound strange but have you tried a different thread and/or a new needle?

Yes, all those... it's almost like it's registering something touching the lever too soon, but can't figure out why.

I have had it 2yrs without a service though so think I'll try get it in and mention the issue

Yeh my thought would be there's something wrong with the lever - sorry to not be more help!

I've had a similar problem (machine is also 2 years old!) with the lever, but it typically wouldn't even start. I think once or twice it did a bit then just stopped.

I tried a couple of things in combination, but am still not too sure what actually ended up fixing it.

I un-threaded the cotton completely, removed the lever, turned off the machine. Tightened up any screws etc I could then turned my machine back on, did the "needle up, needle down" thing as this resets some of the internal mechanics, ensured the foot was really secure (and the button in the foot was in place securely too), the last thing was dropping the lever into place.

Finally after all that it worked and I haven't had any issue since.
