I used the fabric godmother Ace denim

I've also made one in Lady McElroy cobra corsage twill

Very excited, would love to know what material others are using. Not sure if I will choose a twill or a canvas.

Here are my two versions, the leopard print is a Fabric Godmother denim called Ace and the black one is a Lady McElroy cotton twill called Cobra Corsage. I used viscose to line both of them and I absolutely adore them both

I'm in - bought the pattern and am planning to use a lightweight denim from my stash. Am very beginner so think this may be too ambitious but am going to give it a go anyways and see how I get on!!

I have to admit, I'm not the greatest when it comes to following written instructions, I glance over it and then think 'oh I'll figure it out'... and that doesn't always go well lol.

I'm loving the video tutorials, especially them being broken down into sections xx

What are the sizings like?

Amazing!! It goes from an XS which is a 32" bust up to a 7X which is a 60" bust

Does anyone else have to do a full bust adjustment? I've never done one before and think I have to reduce 2 inches (1 inch either side I assume?) across the chest.

I've made a toile and it fits well everywhere else (across full bust, waist and hips) but is far too loose across the chest.

Is it loose across the full width of the chest or have you just got gaping at the neckline?

There's a blog post on FPC website for some adjustments to make with the Eddy, SBA doesn't seem to be included and I would worry that doing the reverse of the FBA suggestion would make it too small everywhere else.

I did a small shoulder adjustment on my leopard print version as the first one was too wide. The other thing I would consider is a shallow chest adjustement - I have a veeery old blog post on this one. Essentially you take a wedge out from the neckline where it's gaping and transfer it into a dart.

Thank you for the reply - I really appreciate it :)

I think I've managed to get it fitting well now - the original toile was gaping across the chest. I tried blending across sizes as well as a FBA on separate front pattern pieces - got the same result and a better fit with both.

I've done a quick toile of the outer main pieces to check sizing - think it's ok so just started a wearable toile in a cotton twill. If it works and I have time (🙄) I'd like to do another one in a more precious fabric. I've just pinned all the darts.... there's  a few! Good luck everyone 😃

Just watched your videos and I'm slightly less scared to make this now 😂 the darts was worrying me a little bit but I've seen your video and It makes a lot more sense now. I am now though questioning my choice of fabrics (chambray and poplin) so we shall see.( I also hate gathering)

I'm so pleased to hear that! I can't wait to see how you get on, Luckily the gathering of the sleeves is minimal, it's just a little bit to ease the sleeve into the armhole.

The rest of the videos for sewing the lining to the body at the hem are on the way.

Sooo! I can't believe I'm doing this, but I just bought the pattern!

This is a pattern that I felt sure wasn't for me and I still don't think it is, but it looks so amazing on Hayley and others that I have decided to give it a go.

The luxury fabric and the supplementary are just perfect for this project so the stars have aligned!

Not sure I will get it sewn up for the party as I have to get it printed out and have 2 blouses to sew up, but I am onboard!

Eeek! 🥳

I've missed being there! Ever time I think I can attend, something comes up. It has been frustrating!

It looks amazing on you Hayley! One of the main reasons I have decided to give it a go!

Looking forward to all the tips and tricks to getting a great result. It will certainly be a learning process and a challenge, but I am looking forward to learning new skills.

Thank you xxx

when picking lining, I am in a conundrum.  I have a wild bright piece of nylon and it says to have something slick/slippery for ease of putting on and off BUT it also has you press with very high heat whenever possible so I am worried I am going to melt it.  should I opt for cotton poplin/lawn instead?

SewHayleyJane's avatar
SewHayleyJane Admin

Ooh that is a conundrum. I would test the nylon and see what heat you can get away with. Ideally it needs to hold a crease so if you can get it to do that at a heat that doesn't melt you'll be good. If not, then I'd maybe consider something else
