Falconer Pants And Apron Belly

Hi there! I would love to make the Falconer pants by Helens closet but I'm worried about my big apron belly 😩 Has anyone made them and has suggestions on how to handle the belly/crotch? Should I use my half back measurements x 2 to find my overall true size and then add cm missing from my half front with a full belly adjustment (hope it maje sense)? Would I ruin the design or make a good job? đŸĢŖđŸ˜… I surely would apply this idea to other patterns (eg Thea trousers from tilly and the buttons, new Exeter from Cashmerette, chanterelle from sew liberated etc.) I think Hayley made them 🤔 I remember a video, bit perhaps I'm getting confused 😅

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello Sylvia, I bought this pattern awhile back. I'm not much help as I haven't made them yet! Distracted by grandchildren's holidays, necessary sewing (knickers, apron etc.) and all the autumn preserving!

I can't understand if you have already made trousers, or if this would be your first go.

When I get round to it (!) I am going to look at trousers that fit me and work from there. When I make the Ames jeans by Cashmerette, I use the apple front and pear back together. When doing that, I used small measurements all the way down to get my shape.

2 other things to consider:

See Jenny's comments on measuring 'spread' - taking your measurements standing up, and sitting down.

Using fabric with a slight stretch in it means you can allow for some variation (I do this so I don't have voluminous trousers!)

Please let us know how you get on. I will post what I do, but I doubt it will be this side of Xmas!

Hello, yes I did make them, and did a video on them here

They are very comfortable on my belly, but I do prefer wearing them with a top untucked because I do feel that the denim hugs the apron a bit. Best thing to do is toile! especially with trousers.

If you are on instagram What Vicki Made I think has a highlighted series around fitting the falconers around her tummy too.
