Canyon Dress That Fits!

I wanted to make the Canyon dress, by Friday Pattern Company.

First Attempt just went completely wrong, so I just bin it, as I wasn't happy with it and the fabric choice.

The second attempt, I used a similar fabric to my first attempt, I don't learn!!! and took the time in cutting and sewing. I made it according to my size! But I was not happy with it. It was at two sizes too big. I made XL with this and first attempt. I normally make either XL or L with FPC. I was disappointed as I wanted something nice for Sewfizzteacated in October.

So I bit the bullet and used a fabric that I had in my stash since June. This time I cut out size M, 2 sizes smaller. I made the bodice at the sewing social and tried it on at the social and it fitted. Next I made the next tier with pockets.

As I started to make this version I had attended the Babylock workshop at their Headquarters just outside Northampton, where I met up with Mel Keane for the first time, Here I learn to gather with the Coverstitch. That day, for attending the workshop we have discount for attending, so I ended up buying the basic coverstitch machine!!! So decided to make used of what I learnt on that day, by gathering the tier for the dress and then sewn up, I topstitched the tier using the 3 needles. Also I hem the sleeves and main hem using the 3 needles covertitsch. Coverstitch is just for knits!!!!

Out come, very please with the result. Couldn't wait to wear for Sewfizzteacated last saturday.

The last photo is the 2nd attempt, which I hope up cycled into two peice outfit, skirt and top, which I planning to do at my next sewing social so I have someone to help with the fitting adjustment. Second photo last tier just been topstitch.
