Let's get the ball rolling with a Tilly and the Buttons pattern - the Indigo smock dress is a great one for beginners. This is a great beginner friendly sewing pattern that will leave you with a lovely dress.

New Look pattern N6889 (dress option E) was the first ever dress I made nearly 2 years ago in a sewing class.

It's pretty straightforward, but you still get to learn some useful techniques.

At the time I didn't realise just how many small, independent companies there were that develop their own  patterns.

Now I much rather support smaller businesses as I prefer their designs and inclusivity. Plus they are really helpful if you have a question about their patterns :)

(Apologies - I may have gone a little off topic!)

No that's a great insight! I agree that the independent pattern companies are great for inclusivity and for their customer service.
The big 4 patterns have such a vast collection of patterns so once you know what you're doing they are a fab resource too.

That New Look dress looks lovely!
