Shirt-Dress
A make by DonnieH
About this make
First version made with quite a heavy weight viscose linen 'apricot tree' from Guthrie & Ghani in May/June 2025. I couldn't get the pockets to sit straight, one was always lopsided, so I removed one and just left one in situ - without the comparison it wasn't jarring! Had 3 goes with the waist. The fabric was too heavy for the drawstring, elastic pulled the fronts pieces apart and caused gaping. In the end I add belt loops and wear it belted and I love it.
Version 2 started in June 2026. I think I love the style of this pattern because it reminds me of uniform shirts. It feels familiar when I wear it. I also love the silhouette on me. I don't do well with things that divide me at the waist. I know a belt draws attention to the waist but the block fabric conceals the unbalanced proportions of my body!
Making version 2 using a textured Viscose from Lamazi Fabrics. I love the colour palette. I have another dress in similar colours but patterned rather than striped. Cream/tan/turquoise/navy.
No occasion for the make - just a dress for warmer days.
