Julie's wedding dress

About this make

I created this dress for a client, to her measurements. I use the pattern as a base block, but I completely redesigned the top part. The client didn't imagine herself as a bride. We had to discuss for months about her preferences. I suggested her to separate her vision of her body with the wedding dress. We met for 4 fitting, including the delivery one. The emotion came at the first fitting, when she said "it is the first time I have my bust fitter that well". The top is made of Calais lace, then a layer of extra thin organza, and a layer of Mikado 145 gr/m² as a base. The skirt is made of a layer of extra thin organza, a layer of Mikado 145 gr/m² and a Venezia lining. I used extra thin organza for the detachable train. The veil fabric is invisible tulle, gathered with a hair comb. All fabrics come from Stragier.com. I was successfully advice by email about the best selection of fabrics. I recommend this website. Notions: thread (from Coats), Microtex needle 60 from Schmetz, Horsehair braid (coarse) for the hemline, invisible zipper. What went well: - The bride was very happy and comfortable with the dress. - The fabrics were well suggested by Stragier.com. - The seamless lace application (by hand) was my first time and successful. What could be improved: - Anticipate more time for the finishing. - Improve my hemline finishing in terms of technique and efficiency. - Study and test the full-bust adjustment to be more efficient. I am open to questions and suggestions !
