I struggle with twin needles. I only use them on very stable fabric, ad with very good thread. My tips are:

Lightweight interfacing to stablise the fabric (on a hem, I use the 'no sew' hemming double sided one, often cut in half)

Pull the two thread outat the back and hold them very lightly as you start to sew, to ensure the tension starts correctly.

if you are doing both of those, I have no more ideas!

What machine are you using? This could be something a machine specialist might be able to help you with

I use a twin needle on my tee shirts, I use heat and bond soft stretch to turn the hem up, its an iron on interfacing and works a treat and also gives the hem a bit of body for the twin needle to give a nice neat finish

Hi Annie Rose.

Im not sure what machine you have. I used a twin needle for the first time last week and wasn't sure how to use it so I went on youtube.

I found 2 ways of setting up the thread. I threaded my needele form the front of the eyelets to the back.

One is thread and bobbin on top of each other. One is bobbin on top and thread at the back.

Im not sure if this is what your referring to. YouTube is a good place to go for tips. 🙂

I had skipped stitches when I was using a universal needle that came with the machine on stretch fabric. Got a jersey one and that worked, however my machine manual said only use the 2.5 width needles.
