Large Scale Print Sewing Ideas.

Hi,

I am looking for ideas on what to sew with my impulse purchase. It just accidentally fell into my basket. Whoops!

I am feeling the pressure as it is precious fabric and I don’t want to mess it up!

I have 2 metres of this Liberty peony Binkington, viscose , satin.

I usually buy size 20 in ready to wear.

I need a pattern that doesn’t break up the large scale flowers.

Does anyone have pattern ideas please?

Beautiful fabric! I'm not sure if you have experience with sewing but, if you don't, I recommend going to a charity shop, buying some cheap fabric and having some carefree fun with it (even if it looks terrible by the end!). I think the fabric you've got is perfect for a long summer skirt. I find putting my measurements in Gemini helps with making a pattern from scratch but, just ask Gemini to double check the measurements a couple of times so you don't end up with something that doesn't fit! 🥰 You can even send Gemini images of your drafted patterns to check the shape is right!

Thank you for this , I will certainly make a toile first. I love that fabric and would hate to waste it.

I hadn’t thought of using Gemini- I usually look at printed and pdf patterns from the independents. I am a stick to the instructions kind of girl.

Thanks for the advice.

Ooh Karen this is beautiful!!

How about a slip dress? I’m looking at making the Friday pattern company Saltwater slip using her hack for a gathered bust panel on her YouTube. That would definitely let the fabric shine

Good shout, I have that pattern so saving money there.

I pick the fabric up in a couple of weeks so will have a better idea of the texture and drape then.

It is so good when they bring out add ons to an existing pattern. They suit more body shapes then.

Thanks again.

Simplicity m7969 is a great pattern for this. Pretty easy to make and loads of people have made it if yiu want to see what it would look like. It was free on Minerva for a while, but I don't think it is anymore. The thing I like about it..... the skirt is just gathered rectangles. So you can basically use what you have left after making the bodice and that is the length of your skirt. I have made at least 4 so far :)

I am not sure if you will have enough for a dress, depending matching the pattern; but it would make a lovely tunic. Wearting it over simple leggings / trousers would really showcase the print.

And my favourite of this summer - a kimono (with the advantage of being able to use contrasting bands.

A kimono dressing gown, you’d get to wear it every day!

Check out Liberty website and see the dressing gowns on there, see the £££ price tag and you’ll feel glad you have the fabric to make one at a fraction of the price.
