Pattern making courses

Hi all! I'm really interested in some kind of pattern making course - learning how to draft patterns but also how to edit patterns to fit me better. I've tried some free online things and books but I think I need some proper teaching.

Does anyone have recommendations? I don't mind online or in person!

Thanks!

Hopefully someone will have a recommendation, unfortunately it's not something I've ever looked into

I have just been on a course with the lovely Sarah of My Handmade Wardrobe. We learned how to make our own bodice block, do alterations and how to adapt patterns we buy to fit us better. It was a great course, 3 days of residential (although I travelled each day as I live close, so you have the option for either). It was also great to learn from the alterations others needed to make too.

Thanks - this looks amazing! Little far from me so I'd have to spend extra on accommodation, but could be a good option to learn a lot in one go so I'll investigate more! Thanks!!

Hi there

I have just joined The Project Patterns course/online membership that could definately be a good option for you:

project-patterns.co.uk  It's run by Kate Roberts who is a pattern cutter herself. She's @projectpatterns on insta etc

I found out about her through one of the only pattern cutting podcasts I could find:

fashionhalfcut.fashion.blog (finished in 2021 I think, but lots of great info if you want to binge listen to all things patterncutting related!).

I've also just finished a couple of in-person courses (Fashion & Textiles level 1&2: Pattern cutting) based in Plymouth: cityplym.ac.uk/courses/fashion-and-textiles/

-although I think this sort of course in available in other areas, the awarding body is skillsandeducationgroupawards.co.uk/qualifications/

-but I can't seem to work out where the other courses are based from this site: its just a run down of the different levels of courses the awarding body do . I did email them to ask about where any level 3 Fashion & Textiles (pattern cutting) courses were, and they wrote back, so its worth emailing...

Hope that helps x

Ahh thank you so much! I did find that course but I think she's just literally stopped the enrollment a few days ago so I'll have to wait for the next one. It does look great!

Also-- I was just looking at the podcast site and noticed this page has links to various courses, on and offline and various levels (a few links have died) fashionhalfcut.fashion.blog/2021/10/07/episode-47/

My local college of further education does an evening pattern cutting basics course and an advanced one - i am booked on to start in September. Might be something to check out in your local area?
