Make Nine 2025

Will you be taking part in the #makenine on Instagram next year? The idea is to pick 9 projects you'd like to focus on making throughout the year and share them on social media (in a neat little 3x3 grid).

I think I will. I'm deciding between:

  • a capsule wardrobe for spring or summer. I did this a few years ago for fall and those clothes still bring me a lot of joy.
  • a collection of patterns from the same designer. I have soooo many PDF patterns... I'm thinking either Named, Tilly or How to do Fashion. I could even do a capsule with patterns from just one designer.
  • A capsule of vintage inspired clothes from Charm patterns, How to do fashion, Sew Over it and the vintage reproductions of McCalls, Vogue etc. Paired with some vintage inspired knitting.

I had completed my make 9 by the End of February this year and will definitely take part again next year!

I do love an insta challenge! I find them very motivating!

If you have stash hub you will find a section that lists a lot of them. If not I usually hear of them on sewing blogs on YouTube or on instagram. I hope that helps. Maybe Hayley can do a list each month on here with details 💖

I failed my make nine last year for various family related reasons which resulted in the loss of my sewjo.  I miss sewing and thought if I set myself a small target each month, my sewjo would return. So my challenge is to sew at least one item each month ( 12 items ) for 2025. My first item for January will be a Chubby tote bag by Sotak handmade. I would also like to include throughout the year, a Coat and finally make some trousers(my biggest fear.)

That is a great target Suzy, one a month feels achievable. The make nine can work for some people but for others it's too limiting - you might change your mind by June which is totally ok!

This is my make nine for next year. I decided to make it all about upping my skills level.

I had completed this year's make nine by February and decided I would make it a bit more challenging this year 🤩

I think I will to focus on half started projects and gifts - I'd like to make as many gifts as I can on 2025. I think this will help me stop losing my sewjo!

It doesn't have to be just clothes does it? I wanted to make a beanbag for my son and Christmas crackers this year but didn't get round to it.

That's a great goal - perhaps one gift a month would be a good way to go?

I'd love to do a make 9 for 2025, especially as I've only been sewing for 18 months and making my own clothes for the past 12 months! I want to build up to sew a coat -basically to make a lighter weight copy of a RTW one I already have (the company that I bought it from has recently gone out of business)

What a great goal for the year! Have you found a pattern that works?

Sadly no. I will at some point take a photo and post it in my community groups for inspiration. It's a modern-vintage style coat which has a big flair 'skirt' (think a circle skirt coat) and a nice big hood.

Cashmerette have something in their membership club that might work - it's missing the hood but does have the big flaired skirt

Oh that's the style! Absolutely spot on (and I could always hack a hood). Thank you 🤩

Whilst there are garments I know I want to make I find the idea of a make nine too overwhelming but love to read about other sewists ideas this gives me inspiration

These are my Make Nine goals for this year. I'm not very good at sticking to specific projects on a Make Nine, so I'm trying general concepts/skills I want to learn to see whether that helps motivate me instead!

Made the free Galena yesterday in the planned fabric, and I made a Going Home in a mystery box fabric and love it. Off to a good start anyway. 😄
