I love sewing and wearing both shirts and blouses - it depends on my mood!

My current favourite blouse to wear is the S.O Sew Dressmaking Emily - I'm wearing a plain white one right now! https://sosewdressmaking.com/products/the-emily-dress-and-top

My favourite shirt is the Closet Core Jenna Shirt https://closetcorepatterns.com/products/jenna-button-up-shirt-shirtdress-pattern?variant=40460280168582

I haven’t made any shirts or button down blouses yet , as I haven’t braved the button hole thingy on my machine yet. It is taunting me though and I have bought the Wren Blouse from Chalk and Notch. So far my ‘blouses ‘ have been TATB Indgios.

Ah the fear is real! What sort of machine do you have? Does it have a 1-step or 3-step buttonhole function?

Oh I love both. I especially love a shacket. I just ordered the Den from Chalk and Notch to try. But I do really love a pretty, flowy blouse.

I've made several shirts, but I really prefer blouses. For me shirts are not as comfortable to wear.

Years of wearing shirts (and ties) for work mean they are a comfortable and known place for me. If blouses are too 'fancy' I find they irritate me. I like a collar that stays in the same place and doesn't flap around when I'm wearing it!! Although I am very drawn to the prettiness of blouses and have made a few - I'm not drawn to then wearing them. Something I hope to address in the me-made challenge in May!

I like the Cashmerette Vernon shirt, although I do make deeper cuffs on it nowadays. Made in a Tana lawn it feels lovely to wear. I made the Friday Pattern Company Patina blouse in baby cord last year and did wear that a lot in the autumn/winter. Thinking about it, it's perhaps not so much the style as the fabric choices that cause my irritation when wearing blouses. The baby cord was very well behaved when worn and didn't flap or float at all!! (I'm laughing at myself as I type this and feeling sorry for anyone who stumbles across the post!!)

I think the conclusion is that I need stable rather than flappy or floaty fabrics on my upper half - so that includes blouses. I like the swish of a skirt - but not a top! That's a distinction I hadn't appreciated before!

I feel like we have just witnessed an epiphany Donnie!! I agree flappy bits can be very annoying.

Team blouse here

I have a few favourite blouse patterns :

Love Notions Rhapsody, I’ve just cut out my 5th (or maybe it’s my sixth 🤔 ) in a gorgeous crinkle viscose which is very shifty to cut!

I only discovered Pattern Emporium last year and love the Lyrical blouse - made a couple of them

Chalk and Notch Wren - comes together beautifully again I’ve made a couple of them

Is Friday Pattern Co Donny shirt a blouse or a shirt ? - it’s another firm favourite for me whatever category it comes in
