I'd love to know if you have a sewing tool or piece of equipment that you didn't have for ages, and then once you got one you wondered how you ever lived without it?
For me it's the French Curve... until I got it I just eyeballed grading curved seams, now I have a French Curve ruler I'll never go back
The tiny little thing called -knit picker. It helps weave ends of overlocker threads and secure them. I am using it couple years now (and I keep few spare just in case)

I don't knot anything or sew it back through the overlocker threads - am I on the naughty step for doing this?

I will be joining you here as I never thread them through. Why? The seam is sewn, they are not easy to remove anyway, why would they unravel?
Mine is a simple water erasable pen (instead of chalk). I've found that if I place my finger underneath where I need to mark a dot as I mark it, the erasable ink will go all the way through - saving me half the time! Plus it's improved my pattern tracing accuracy no end.

A button hole chisel, it gives such a neat finish compared to the usual pin and unpicker cut method.

I'm the gadget queen so I've got tools and bits and pieces all over the place. My favourite would depend on what I'm doing at the time but my latest buy is a silicone presser thingy. Love it.
Heat erasable pens for marking and sewing double sided tape (for bag making)
I finally bought a pattern notcher and a pattern drill (is that what it's called??). I thought they were pointless, but it's much easier to see the proper notches if you're playing pattern tetris and have pieces upside down rather than just making a cut as I used to do, and the drill is really helpful for darts, pocket placement marks etc to get them more accurate - I hate tailor's tacks so find this much easier.

My lovely little seam gauge that I bought in Busy Pins and Needles in Aberdare in Wales when I crossed the Channel to visit my Sister last month. Such a little thing but it does make life so much easier. And I could only find lumps of metal up until then in France.
Mine is a pair of snips, very narrow, pointy ends and no finger holes to fight with. But I am considering buying a pair of duck billed scissors since watching you with your 5 items you would take to a desert island
The most recent would be fresh hand needles. Honestly I bought them on a whim while trying to get free shipping from Wawak.
Then I used them and there's a huge difference between these and the standard pack I got with a basc sewing kit 2 decades ago. Turns out you shouldn't have to shove the needle through the fabric.
It's amazing how much of a difference quality tools make. A sharp, fresh needle makes sewing smoother, easier, and much more enjoyable.
