Turning Tool Set

My favourite method for turning tubes of fabric is with a turning tool set, it is essentially a wide straw and a stick that helps push the fabric inside out. The fabric for this video was kindly gifted by Lamazi Fabrics

My favourite method of turning a looper fabric, and definitely the quickest one to do, is to use a turning tool set. It is essentially just a wide straw and stick. You can get sets where they come in different thicknesses. This one is definitely my favourite. This one doesn't work so well on very narrow strips of fabric, and it's best done if one short end is sewn closed. So let's go ahead and sew the strip of fabric.

So we're going to fold the fabric right sides together, and I always find it easiest to sew the long end first, then stop with your needle in the down position, pivot and sew across the short end. Trim down your seam allowance. And it's also a good idea just to snip across the corner close to the stitching line, but not through the stitching line, and that will just help get a nice point when we turn it through.

Now take your turning tool and we are going to put the straw bit inside the loop of fabric all the way down to the end, and then take the stick bit, and I prefer to use the blunt end rather than the pointy end. I have used the pointy end before and it has ended up going through the fabric. So I prefer to use the blunt end and we're going to push that inside the straw, pushing the fabric with it. And as you can see, that is just going to push the fabric through the straw until it comes out the other end, pull it all the way through.

Take the stick bit out, and voila, your strip of fabric is turned through so easy.

Give that a nice press. Use a pin, or you can even use the pointy end of the stick to just turn and make sure you get the corners of the closed end out nice and neat. And that is how to turn a loop of fabric using the stick and straw method.
