.This perennial has popped up on Readytosew and I thought some of you might be interested.

I am a great fan of Raphaelle, who has a good understanding of different bodies, although to be clear, this specific example is slim.

Fascinating to read but also confirms to me how difficult it is to fit your own trousers!

I’ve been reading on her blog & watching on YT The Crooked Hem about the method of Top down centre out trouser fitting, it seems a great way of fitting, I’m looking at giving it a go when I next make a pair. Has anyone tried this method?

I've looked into it but haven't had a proper go.

I spent a lot of time @2 years ago with TDCO - and I didn’t find it very helpful I have say. My breakthrough in fitting pants came via Jenifer Stern YT - she uses a variety of methods and is fantastic! By all means try out TDCO - the conclusion I have come to is the the appropriate methodology shifts depending on your personal fit issues - for me it’s lengthening the back crotch and scooping slightly because I have a flat, low behind! Jenifers approach worked for me because she isolates issues and deals with them independently of anything else. I warn you though - I easily made 10 toiles whilst I learned to recognise what was going on for me personally!, good luck!

I too struggled with tdco and found relying on my pattern drafting knowledge produced a better fit. I made 8 toiles before I got what I wanted. I've since piled on weight but the crotch curve has remained virtually the same. I found once I'd sorted the crotch curve and crotch length the rest was easier.

Top Down Center Out. It's a pants fitting method developed by The Crooked Hem

Thank you for commenting on how you both got on with TDCO Moira & Glenda.

I rely on TDCO with great success. Particularly when I followed her (Ruth) suggestion to size down (rather than up) AND to add a lot to the side seams. She isn't against increasing the cross depth (which some "scooping" does). She has a book out now with great advice. "Body-Neutral Fitting: Pants". Also an ongoing Make Pants With Me projects on Substack.
