Once that is pressed all the way around, we are now going to top stitch the bias binding down. So I prefer to top stitch from the right side, and what we're going to be doing is we're going to be catching in this top edge of the bias binding. Now, if you want to, you can do this by hand, you can slip stitch this down.
I'm very lazy and I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna do it by sewing machine and I'm gonna top stitch. So because I want to sew from the right side, I've got blue thread in the top of my sewing machine, and then just because I want to make it extra extra, I've put a black thread in the bobbin.
You don't have to do that if you don't want to, I just like the extra step of finishing it off that way. Now you need to make sure that you are sewing your top stitching at exactly the right width from your needle. So just measure. Obviously, you don't want to be sewing right on the very edge, you want to sew a couple of millimeters in.
So just measure, and I can see that I'm going to be sewing just a hair over a centimeter on my sewing machine in order to top stitch and make sure that I'm catching that down. A little tip here: if you are sewing, if you're topstitching and like mine, mine is just a little bit over a centimeter.
It's not quite at the next mark on my sewing machine toy plate. So I'm just gonna get a little strip of washi tape, and I'm just gonna lay that down, and that's gonna be my new guide that's gonna help me figure out and make sure that my top stitching stays nice and straight all the way along
