Okay, now we are going to sew our two pocket pieces together to create the pocket bag. So we've got our front pocket piece here and our back pocket piece here, and we are going to lay them right sides together matching up the top edge of the waistline. And then we're also going to match up down at the hem as well.
Now we want to make sure that these top and bottom edges of the pockets are matching up as well. So we're going to lay them down on top of each other making sure that that top edge of the pocket is matched up and then that bottom edge of the pocket as well, and just pop in a few more pins along the side seam. Then we're going to add a few pins to the outside edge of the pocket piece matching up again the raw edges of both pieces of the pocket.
Okay now we are going to sew with our regular seam allowance from the top of the side seam. Then we're going to stop with the needle down at the top of the pocket bag, and we're going to sew around the pocket. Stop again with the needle down at the base of the pocket, pivot and continue all the way down to the side seam. So that we know where to pivot at the top and bottom of the pocket bag.
I'm just gonna add a little pivot point using a friction pen you can use chalk or water air heat erasable marker just to let us know exactly where we want to pivot with the needle down. So from the top of the pocket bag, I am going to measure in one and a half centimeters from the edge of this side seam. And then one and a half centimeters down from there, and that second marking there is going to be our pivot point. I'm going to do the same again on the bottom.
Now, because the bottom of the pocket bag is angled upwards, it's a little bit harder to find. So I'm going to use the edge of the stitching line where we attached the pocket piece to the side seam of the garment. So I'm going to measure one and a half centimeters down from the edge of that stitching there, and then one and a half centimetres up from the very edge of the side seam. And that is pivot point number two.
So now we're going to take this to our sewing machine, start back stitch at the start, and end of your stitching, one and a half centimetres down to the pivot point. Leave your needle in the down position, pivot the whole skirt around so that you can then sew around the pocket pieces up to the next pivot point stop press the foot up pivot your garment so that you can then sew all the way down to the hem.
