Woven fusible interfacing

Hi there

I use fusible woven interfacing where required but am noticing with a few of the garments after multiple wearing, washing and ironing that the interfacing must have shrunk and the fabric is now slightly bigger and therefore there is a type of puckering (hope I'm explaining it so you understand). Wondering if I should use a sew-in woven interfacing would be better? Can you even buy sew-in woven interfacing?

Thoughts appreciated

Thanks

You can definitely buy sew-in woven interfacing, I have to admit to always using fusible though!! I know the type of puckering you mean, especially on collars. Does it flatten out when you iron the garment?

I love G710. It's a super fine woven interfacing. I use it in collars and collar stands, well literally everything.

I was taught to use interfacing iyn the under side of the collar and the inside of the band.

The only time interfacing has bubbled, or come away from the fabric, is when I've made bags. The 'birthing' process, with all that pulling and pushing, seems to pull the interfacing away from the fabric. So I use sew-in when needed.

I think you just need to experiment and play.

Thanks Kim

Reaching the end of the bolt on the one I have (Pellon shape flex) so will try Vsilene. It's happening on the collars and facings and extremely annoying. It only happens after I've worn it a few times. When first made it looks great which makes me think it's shrinking in the wash

The quality of interfacing was something I didn't really undertand until this happened to me. I now only use the vlieseline stuff. It's a bit more pricey but I haven't had issues with it shrinking or becoming crackly over time.

I ended up just buying a whole roll of it for about £70 which has so far lasted me 6 months and I'm only half way through it, but you can just buy it by the metre as well from a lot of places.

Buy the lightest version - you can always add two layers.

Thanks Han

The one I was using was Pellon Shape Flex which is classed as one of the best to use so was surprised it had done this and it's not the first time either, which is why I asked about a sew in one. Reaching the end of my bolt now so maybe it is because it's old so I will try Vsilene when I purchase some more

Hi Han,

how many metres are on a roll. This sounds like a great way to buy it.

The one I bought was 25 metres. I can't seem to find where I purchased it for £75 but it was over a year ago. The places I'm seeing now are closer to £100.
