News From the Community

Let's take a look at what the community has been stitching up recently.

Could this be a more perfect summer dress? Sue has made the Chalk and Notch Marcel Dress in a gorgeous bright and bold viscose from Dalston Mills - the swishiest, airiest dress for a hot day,

Shared in a forum post about confidence boosting sewing patterns Laura is feeling fabulous in her Sew Over It Nomi Dress, a knit pattern that Laura hacked to make it perfect for summer holidays.

As we near the end of the school year Agata has already been thinking about gifts for her daughter's teachers. A book sleeve for one who likes to read is such a thoughtful gift.

Sewn during one of our online socials Annie made this beautiful Lora Dress by The Patterns Room in a viscose jersey. Such a simple design but it looks so glamorous!

An absolute knockout of a dress from Theresa who stitched up this beautiful Persephone dress by Gunnar Deathridge to wear to the Sewn at Midnight Gala in a crushed stretch velour.

It's not all about dresses in the summer as Linda proves having made a stunning Friday Pattern Company Donny Shirt in a lovely Broderie Anglaise from Fabric Godmother.

Broderie Anglaise

Are there any blouse patterns out there suitable for broderie anglaise? I have 2m and would like a top/blouse in it. I’m a size 14-16 and, totally inspired by Hayley’s recent tummy friendly video, I’m wondering if the TATB Nell peplum blouse would...

Lost My Sewing Mojo This Weekend.

Hello all, I am in a sewing slump! I think it boils down to the fact that everything I have made lately needs altering or tweaking in some way. The Lane trousers were nice, but very very wide on my 5ft frame and the high rise came up to my bra...

A Little Diary Thread Because I'm At The Age Where I Forget!

Hi everyone To dispel the Sunday evening blues I have been cutting out and getting projects ready so I can just sit down and sew in the odd half hours I can make during the week. I'm hoping this will make life more balanced than it often is... ...

Pietra Toiles

As promised here is my toiles of the pietra shorts. Went for the size 6 as per my hip measurement but there was far to much fabric on the back waist band, the front was too long in the rise. So I forgot the next toile I used a linen mix size 4 for...

Jasmin

Jasmin has been a member of ThreadySetGo since the day it started, a regular in the sewing socials and always with a smile and a giggle!

Hi Jasmin, tell us a little about yourself?

Hello! I'm Jasmin! I live in the North of the UK (County Durham) with my hubby, Eddy and our little dog Blaise, the Corgi.

I wish I could spend my days sewing but I have a boring job in Risk & Quality Assurance (it's not that boring I'm just being dramatic), however since the hubby works nights I spend most evenings sewing! I love it and I started vlogging, paint by numbers and latch hooking too. One cannot have too many hobbies.

When, why and how did you start sewing?

Back in 2014 after I finished university (criminology degree), my sister was also on university holidays but she was doing a fashion degree and she brought home her sewing machine. I made myself a fabric phone case and a cushion cover that summer, I enjoyed it but I wasn't hooked.

Then in 2017 I pinched my sisters machine since she didn't want it but didn't do much other than take in some clothes that were too big, I bought patterns and fabric but I didn't know where to begin! I made 1 garment (Donny shirt) the whole of 2023, then I suddenly lost my Grandad early 2024.

I started sewing more intensely to support me through the grief which really helped, I found it so therapeutic but I continued sewing on a more regular basis and actively tried to make things and it just grew from there!!

Do you have any sewing rituals you love?

You know I don't think I do! I've started drinking alot more water so my water bottle always comes with me to the sewing room! I asked my husband this question and he said... What about the fact that you only make Donny Shirts (Friday Pattern Company) 😂😂

Do you have a sewing tool you can’t live without?

I love my little stork snips! However they don't love me, I use them, put them down and then poof they've grown legs and walked off! Every. Single. Time.

What made you sign up to ThreadySetGo and why do you love it?

Actually it's Hayley herself that's kept me around! I was part of the SewHayleyJane subscription box and when ThreadySetGo started I joined and stayed when the boxes stopped because I wanted to support Hayley and I believe in her vision.

I'm glad I stuck around as ThreadySetGo is excellent value for the socials alone, then throw in the wonderful forum community - it's the whole package!

I work from home and live between 30 - 90 minutes from my friends and family so the sewing socials gives me frequent social/human connection and also I have so many new sewing friends!! The forum is such a great place to share and to learn from each other. I'm always lurking but I should get better at posting! 😂😂

If you could have your dream, no-expense-spared sewing day what would it look like?

Right! A beautiful sunny warm day, a sewing set up outside with a little umbrella shade and a fan and I need unlimited cocktails and delicious snacks! I don't think I'm asking for much, right? Oh and someone to cut out the fabric then I can just sew it up! Perfect.

What’s on the sewing table this week?

Well! I'm attempting the Merchant & Mills Ellsworth top again as much as the instructions are very confusing and not 100% clear, I actually really like the final top! I also have a Friday Pattern Company Davenport Dress and the Cinnamon Daisy Pepper top cut out and ready to make up!
