Customized Sewing Stations/ Sewing Rooms
I am almost finished with a retro-fitting project on an old sewing table that I couldn't find a machine machine for. It is very sturdy with plenty of drawer space, and the kind of work station geography that invites customization. Into this work...
How Long Does Fabric Sit In Your Stash?
Sometimes I buy fabrics without a real plan, and often forget about them. I've just made a Donny shirt using fabric which has been in my stash since June 2010. Every fabric gets its chance to shine.

Vintage Pattern Collection
Last year I sewed too much. I averaged a garment a week, which consequently overwhelmed my wardrobe and frazzled my brain. So this year I decided to calm down, limit my makes and take my time. I ordered six vintage patterns from The Vintage Pattern...
A Little Diary Thread Because I'm At The Age Where I Forget!
Hi everyone To dispel the Sunday evening blues I have been cutting out and getting projects ready so I can just sit down and sew in the odd half hours I can make during the week. I'm hoping this will make life more balanced than it often is... ...

When, why and how did you start sewing?
I first started sewing as a child with my Nan. She taught me to sew by hand to begin with and then moved on to teaching me how to use her sewing machine. The first garment I made with her was when I was about 13 and we sewed an A-line mini skirt with a waistband and zip. I’m pretty sure all I did was sew the straight seams, but I still remember feeling very proud of that make!
In 2016, when looking for a way to calm my very overactive mind, I returned to sewing. I started sewing things for the house - cushion covers, storage baskets and even a quilt! I moved on to dressmaking in 2018, very quickly caught the bug and haven’t looked back!
Do you have a favourite type of fabric or print you love to sew?
I love bright colours and wear colour all year round. The colours I wear tend to change with the season, but blues feature in all the seasons!
I love a floral print but have recently been branching out into animal print, gingham and even plains! My favourite fabric is viscose. I love the feel of it and how it drapes.
Do you have a sewing tool you can’t live without?
My Prym turning set are fantastic for easily turning through drawstrings or straps. My unpicker gets a fair amount of use as well!
What made you sign up to ThreadySetGo and why do you love it?
Sewing can be quite a solitary hobby and I don’t have anyone around me who loves it as much as I do! I love the social sessions for the inspiration, the support and the community. I was incredibly nervous to join my first session but I’m so glad I did as everyone is just so friendly and supportive.
If you could have your dream, no-expense-spared sewing day what would it look like?
I’d have someone else on hand to do all the interfacing (the one sewing job I don’t like!) If it was my dream day, I would have a constant supply of tea and Party Rings biscuits delivered to my sewing table at regular intervals so I didn’t have to stop mid project, I would have my headphones in and I would listen to music all day (apart from when I was joining the Thready Set Go social of course!) I would be sewing a blouse (my favourite thing to sew) and would be sewing a pattern I had made before so there would be no worries about making mistakes or whether it will fit!
What’s on the sewing table this week?
This week I am working on one of my favourite blouse patterns, the Nina Lee Park Lane blouse. I’ve opted for 3/4 length sleeves, the shoulder ruffle and I’m doing the regular neckline with no collar. I’m using a gorgeous Lise Tailor cotton sateen fabric that has been in my stash for a while, and I think it’s perfect for a simple blouse.
