Hello everyone I'm Mandie from West Sussex. I live with my husband and 2 children (ages 7 and 1). I've been sewing on and off for 12 years but really got into it in the last 3, and now no longer buy clothes new- only make them myself or buy second hand (last years resolution that was successful!)

I'm looking forward to chatting and enjoying this lovely community! Thank you Hayley!

Hi Mandie, so lovely to meet you! And great that you've been able to create your own wardrobe over the last 3 years

I have left it for awhile and come back but also repurposed one into a different garment.

Hi all 😃

Does anyone have any thoughts on cutting chiffon, please? I have to work with it every so often and I always cut it out in a single layer, never the two on top of each other but somehow the pieces still up end slightly skewed 😱

I hear you 👋 I've promised my daughter a few makes to go in her suitcase for her trip to New Zealand in February.  My problem is I've got a head bursting with exciting ideas and fingers itching to stitch all the time! But real life kicks in..housework. work etc..  I'd better get cracking on those summery dresses, the housework might just have to wait ✋️

Oh gosh! That's certainly a deadline that will come around fast, Nyree! Definite essentials for NZ! All power to your sewing machine 😃

I've got as far as cutting out my next project...that was the easy part 😩, LOL!

I'd love to do a make 9 for 2025, especially as I've only been sewing for 18 months and making my own clothes for the past 12 months! I want to build up to sew a coat -basically to make a lighter weight copy of a RTW one I already have (the company that I bought it from has recently gone out of business)

Hi Yolanda, I bought a Janome 2000 cover stitch and hardly use it, it skips stitches too. On the other hand I bought a cheap overlocker a few years ago in case I didn't get on with it, use it all the time and bought a baby lock victory earlier this year. Absolutely fantastic highly recommend, you'll never look back, especially if you like sewing/wearing stretch fabrics, sweatshirt/dresses don't go near the sewing machine. Happy shopping for one. X

A previous fabric from the SHJ classic box along with the new look pattern 6571. A little challenging for me and not perfect, but am pleased with the result. Raph won garment of the week using this pattern and a gold brocade fabric on The Great British Sewing Bee from June 2021

I have two teenage nieces, a couple of years ago I made them PJ bottoms from the rainbow tartan fabric we had in the boxes. I have a few scraps so going to make them each a zipper pouch with some reusable make up wipes, chocolate and make-up voucher

Awesome gifts. May need to pinch your idea with pride for next Christmas.

I was such a lucky girl this Christmas, my other half surprised me with a new sewing machine. I was saving to get one for my big birthday in August this year, I was so overwhelmed and grateful.

Oh wow what a lovely surprise! Which machine did you get? X
