I've just completed 'smatchy-matchy' pj shorts (Tilly and the Buttons Jaime) for my sister and I.  I'm going to SA soon, and seeing her for the first time in two years. I can't wait.

Oh my gosh that's lovely!! She's going to love them!

I've made a couple of Billie jumpers. One was a practice in sweatshirt fabric and the real deal was a nerida hansen flower french terry. Love the pattern and amazed how quick I can sew it up on my overlocker. Next is a Lyra dress but I'm putting off cutting it out...

Ah I love a Billie jumper, so speedy to make up!

I want to make something to wear, for either me or one of my girls (5 + 8) but I'm nervous. Can you recommend an easy pattern for me to start with please? Maybe one that has a video tutorial too as I'm very much a visual learner.

Have a look at Tilly and the Buttons. The patterns are easier to follow and lots of them have videos to go along side them.

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year (almost).

Thanks Hayley for setting this up, it's been so nice to catch up with everyone!

I'm Sonya, originally from Newcastle, UK, but I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada now. I've been sewing for almost a year and have picked up a lot of tips from sewhayleyjane and looking forward to learning more!

I'm looking forward to connecting with more sewists and  learning more about fitting.

Hi Sonya, wow that's a big move! Amazing that you've only been sewing a year, hope you find lots of inspiration here

Hi Everyone, my name is Helen and I live near Cambridge.  I had not sewn for years but restarted about six months ago and really have the sewing bug now.  My grandmother was the most amazing sewist I know and I just wish she had been around when I started, then I might not have stopped for such a long time.  Looking forward to being part of this community and improving my skills.

Hi Helen, really lovely to have you here! It's so lovely to have a skill or hobby that connects you in someway to previous generations.

I was such a lucky girl this Christmas, my other half surprised me with a new sewing machine. I was saving to get one for my big birthday in August this year, I was so overwhelmed and grateful.

Oh that's so lovely!! What machine was it?

Beautiful shirts Hayley but I particularly love the white one as it looks so christmassy, although I think they might be strawberries? They look fab on you!

DeirdreByrneGansai - 1 week ago

Thank you, yes they are strawberries so not quite christmassy!
