Ive just sorted my sewing room out & have sooo much fabric in my stash, enough for about 20 new garments this year! I will try not to buy anymore fabric this year! Anybody else have too much fabric (is there such a thing 😂) and not enough time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes.  I've had too much for two years.  I have about 40 boxes (ikea square ones) cos I went mad for a while.  I even set up a page to sell my stuff to try and make space.  I can't do any sewing with it, no head space.  I'm going to tidy the rooms it's all in and try and finish a project or two I have on the go.  Then make something for my mother in law. I want to try and make myself something but I'm really big and I don't see the point. I would consider myself a beginner,  I've made about 20 things in total in 2 years, with different degree of success.  Need to get my head down.

I will be finishing an off the shoulder  velvet dress for my son's girlfriend. Then I think I will be attempting to make a shirt/blouse for my mother in law....no pressure!

I have bought and washed the  material for both of these dresses. These will be made ASAP. Perfect summer dresses.

If a project you are working on isn't working out the way you hoped what do you do?

Do you plough on to the end and hope you like the finished garment?

Do you put it away and come back to it later?

Do you try and change it into something else?

Or do you scrap it completely and move on?

I tend to put it to one side and try to forget about it 🙄😂

Have you got your first project of 2025 cut out and ready to sew? Or are you planning what it will be?

SewHayleyJane - 2 weeks ago

I have 2 drews cut out ready to go. One is a dress hack with the burgundy waves loop back french terry from November's box.

I have another 2 or 3 to cut out too.

I have just traced the lahja dressing gown pattern for the fabric godmother satin and the cloud jersey from previous boxes.

I'm halfway through tracing the Nell dress pattern. I'm going to use the black dobby that I bought from the outlet shop for the dress or blouse.

I got £40 Jenny stitches voucher from my mother-in-law, £100 1st for fabrics voucher from my husband.
He also got me a tool box for the Prym Vario tool that he bought me for my December birthday.
Oh and a friend bought me some small sewing scissors. Blessed 🤩

I received a twelve days of Christmas box with notions and accessories so I'm still opening. So much fun!

oooh that's so much fun! Was it a DIY gift or purchased from somewhere as a whole gift?

Did you get any sewing gifts this year?

SewHayleyJane - 2 weeks ago

Santa knew my old ironing board was purchased when I was a naive beginner sewist and it was, can we say it - crap. He brought me a 4 layer plush, extra wide, extra adjustable dream board! My daughter, who is a bit cash strapped, went to an antique sale and found a rack with 100 thimbles from around the US.   Only we could undrstand the excitement of getting sewing related tools.  Lol

I got Nell for Christmas so currently looking for a fabric to make it out of! Yours are stunning! I didn't think I'd make the top but actually yours looks so good I might try it. I saw a bell on Instagram that added a frill to the bottom so I'm definitely doing that at some point!

My favourite pattern this year was the romey gathered dress by Sew House Seven. I decided to sew it in viscose twill for the perfect comfy autumn dress and loved it so much I made 2 immediately.

They're a little big but they're just extra comfy, and I added elastic rather than the cuffs cos I need to be able to roll my sleeves up.

My other favourite pattern was the Whitcomb top, perfect for squeezing a cute top out of a metre of fabric!
