Hi Debbie, that's great that your mums machine is working now! I'm looking forward to hearing if you've found a pattern to try?

I've actually just taken it to my local fabric shop for them to give it a thorogh clean and lubrication. I thought it hadn't been used in a few years, but apparently it's been 30! So when I collect it I'm going to start with an elasticated skirt (possibly with a pocket) and then pyjama bottoms. That'll use up most of my old duvet cover and then I can treat myself to some fabric!

I got £40 Jenny stitches voucher from my mother-in-law, £100 1st for fabrics voucher from my husband.
He also got me a tool box for the Prym Vario tool that he bought me for my December birthday.
Oh and a friend bought me some small sewing scissors. Blessed 🤩

My daughters boyfriend bought me a pair of electric scissors.  lots of practice needed before I touch any decent fabric with them.

I've got loads of fabric, lots of ideas but not had time to sew over Christmas and the New Year.

Started to clear my craft room / office /laundry today so that I can create some clear space/head space to start a new project.

I've ordered a bag kit so think I'm going to try that first. I sewed a few garments just before Christmas and looking forward to doing more,  but need a bit of breathing space first.

good luck with finding your sew-mo-jo.  👍

Thank you everyone! I've got my mum's old sewing machine working finally (it didn't want to do anything other than a straight stitch at first, it seemed it needing warming up as hadn't been used probably in a decade). Tilly and the Buttons definitely seems to be the way to go. And I've decluttered my bedding so I can try it out on that first. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the finished garment measurements.

Oh and I'd recommend the self threading ones, I have a babylock and love it but other manufactures with this feature

I would love a self-threading sewing machine!! It looks like most people would recommend an overlocker over a coverstitch Yolanda - did you find one?

My other tip is to sew a non-garment - like a bag or accessory, something that you don't need to worry about fitting and can just get immersed in the sewing
