Hi Carol, happy Christmas to you too! Congratulations on the impending arrival of your grandson, how lovely to make a quilt! Is it a colour or character theme at all?

Hi I'm Carol and I love in Great Moulton in rural Norfolk.   I love dressmaking - making things for myself and family and am just getting into quilting.  Just about to start a cot quilt for my second grandson due in April.  Looking forward to heating...

Hi Hayley, I mainly sew for me, love dresses to sew but don't wear them 🙃   (new years resolution maybe)  I've done quilting and think I'll make more cos don't really need more clothes.  Just a couple of hand stitches to put in two bags I've made...

Pjs are finished in time for Xmas. This is a Lewis & Irene cotton from Abakhan sold by weight. I got 2.5m of the border print for the shirt, 2m all over print for the bottoms at a great price. Piping from pound fabrics. Pattern is simplicity...

Thank you Hayley. On the whole the instructions are ok but some of the instructions leave a lot to be desired! There is also a blog post with photos but that is a bit vague in places. The also have a short video on the vent, which is quite useful....

Thank you Hayley. I was using a denim needle for the fabric, and swapped to a topstich needle for the topstitch thread, but it was making a funny noise so I just tried the denim needle but it still seemed a bit strange so I just used the normal...

This is looking really lovely Diane, the back vent is often quite a fiddly thing to do but it's looking great, how have the instructions been?

How were the actual pattern pieces? I've seen videos where they are misaligned and don't match each other.  That's great that something positive has come out of it and it's made you want to delve further into pattern making!

These look fantastic Diane! Shame your machine struggled with topstitching thread, did you keep your universal needle or swap to a denim? I think you can get topstitching needles too which have a bigger hole for the thicker thread.

I actually made both of the piece... I think because I learned to sew when patterns were vintage 🤣 I was able to wing it where the patterns were lacking. I feel this experience has made me want to understand pattern making and construction better.

I've only made one pair of jeans, the Megan Nielsen Ash Jeans, which are in a stretch denim. They are a bit snug, but they are supposed to have negative ease. I think I would just take less seam allowance next time, rather than going up a size, as...

That would definitely be interesting - I think they would have to go through things with a fine toothed comb to check for mistakes - which to start with until things get better could mean more work.

I also use AI at work and I know it requires supervision.  So I'm surprised to see people use it to do something they don't have any experience in. I suspect the Etsy patterns made by AI are created by people who don't make patterns.  The sites I've...
