Hi everyone To dispel the Sunday evening blues I have been cutting out and getting projects ready so I can just sit down and sew in the odd half hours I can make during the week. I'm hoping this will make life more balanced than it often is... ...

Hey all, my goals for 2026 are to do everything with more intention, as in not multi tasking for everything and focus on what I am actually doing instead of half doing things. As for sewing, I love making dresses, but for the winter what I really...

I have the exact same problems with trousers and have been meaning to work on another pair. So maybe I'll make it a goal this year. I want a straight leg pair but any pattern that falls straight from my hips ends up wide leg. So I have to actually...

My overlocker is ill, he keeps bunching up fabric under the foot. The blade is not old, should I change the needles instead in the hope that works and if not put in another blade? Do Hobbycraft sell them?? TIA xx

I missed this thread last month, so I'm a bit late with my 2026 sewing goals! 1. Sew more trousers and improve their fit. I have plenty of tops and dresses, but not many trousers to put them with! The trousers I've made don't fit how I'd like...

Well done! I think jeans are some of the most difficult to get right but once you do, they are great. These look very good indeed, and you may well find that they 'settle' better than they feel at the moment. Did you have to alter the back yoke...

Thank you - good point about the fabric. I have some thin stretchy jersey that will be just the job! The Enlighten doesn't have the adjustable speed dials, but very glad that it suits you, and speaks well of the brand.

Thank you! I haven't quite decided what to do - but it seems as if the speed cotrol goes with the expensive combined machines. I think that it makes sense to wait and try the machines. £250 is tempting, but no good if it the wrong machine for me....

I saw someone who used the foot peddle on the table next to the machine and operated it by hand. That would of course leave only one hand to guide the fabric through but it may tide you over until you can test a new machine.
