Hello everyone, I’ve always been fascinated by sewing and the idea of creating my own outfits, but I’d never dared to give it a try because of my lack of self-confidence—it seemed like a skill that was far too complicated to master. But last...

Hi Mel, Sorry I missed this. I made some hand warmers a couple of years ago, I used uncooked rice which worked well although they didn't hold heat for very long. Lentils also work too. https://sewhayleyjane.com/blog/fat-quarter-make-hand-warmers

I do love that book Anniehen. Clare Hunter did a free Zoom about it with a local literary group. I'm not part of that group, but those of us who sewed for Scrubs Up were invited to join for free.

I’d love to join that group Hayley. I am currently listening to a non fiction audiobook whilst sewing. It’s called Threads of Life (A history of the world through the eye of a needle) by Clare Hunter. It’s really interesting and thought provoking.

This is beautiful. For fabric like this, I agree that a tunic style top or kimono style jacket would showcase it. Given the design, I'd head for a kimono style jacket with contrasting bands. Please keep us posted!

Yes, I do appreciate all the stress my body has endured, and try not to beat myself up, but I just have issues I can’t get over. I’m just going to focus on what I can make or alter to be more comfortable in my own skin. Thanks for the inspiration!

You would use voile - see the link I sent - very thin, near transparent fabric. Or Hayley suggested tulle (netting). You can sometimes buy it in graded colours, but assume you have single colours. On your black panel, I would lay say one layer of...

I think my general rule of thumb is 'light fabric when possible', I used a linen for my summer cloak and it made it fairly reasonable for beating the sun and keeping cool :)

A useful fabric for your cloak might be fleece. You can buy quite thin versions fairly cheaply, and it doesn't need hemming (I made a Paddington duffel coat very quickly using this)

I want to add, that whatever you do, try making a 'toile' in cheap fabric or old sheets. These are not difficult techniques, but you do need to find your way around them. And you may alrrady know this, but beware of thicker fabric (especially for...
