I've had similar problems with a cable knit. In the end I overlocked the inner neckband edge in a single layer then stitched in the ditch without folding over the seam allowance to reduce the thickness. Pleased with the outcome, eventually!

Oh no Han!!! I'm so sorry you've run into trouble - the cable knits can be really thick and when sewing through multiple layers it's tricky! Perhaps a contrast neckband in some ribbing could work as an alternative?

The Ames jeans work really well for me. After making a toile, I realised that they were the most comfy trousers i had ever made, so they are now my standard trouser pattern, in stretch gaberdine, nd without all the 'jeans' accessories.

Hi Dan, lovely to meet you!  I agree with Kim, this is definitely a skill you build up over time and with experimentation.  The instructions should give you some indication of what fabric to go for - for bags it depends on the style as to weather...

I received a bright pink Tula Pink Oliso iron. I've wanted one for ages and my kids clubbed together and treated me to it for Christmas.  I'm beyond excited and have been playing with it today. It's lovely. I feel very spoilt.

Hi Katherine  Is cut the internal yoke on the grain as this is more stable and will stop the outer bias cut yoke from stretching out of shape. Kim

Hi Dan I'd look first at the fabric suggestions on the pattern envelope and start there. Then I'd order some sample swatches, if ordering online, to get an idea of composition and weight (GSM - grams per metre). If you intend to purchase fabric from...

I'm making a shirt and would like to cut the yoke on the bias. Should I do both layers on the bias or just the outside one?! It's a burrito method construction. Thanks!

I design and sell patterns so it does freak me out a bit that there are so many ai patterns out there. The comments here are really interesting though, the main one being price! I got drawn in to buying a £3 pattern on etsy and it was dreadful!

This came together quicker than I expected.  I cut on Friday, got all the way to hemming on Sunday, did the buttons Wednesday.  Ruined a fresh manicure doing the buttons.  Typical.  This is one of the Lutterloh patterns that you get when you buy...
